Fresh Off the Boat Season 6 Episode 8 Review: TMI: Too Much Integrity

If you were ever curious about the harsh realities of being a mom, look no further. Fresh Off the Boat Season 6 Episode 8 has you covered.

The days Jessica had always dreaded finally crept up on her. The boys have grown up and would rather spend time with each other than with her. I had no idea siblings went through a phase that allowed them to enjoy each other's presence for more than a few seconds!

Jessica's dose of reality hit when she witnessed the boys walk in after an entertaining grocery store turkey throwdown, without her.

Parents are always warned that the days go slow, but the years go fast, and you never think it'll happen to you until it does. The babies that once couldn't leave your side for even a split second, suddenly want nothing to do with you.

The days Honey is enduring now as a new parent are the days Jessica can't believe have passed.

At the end of the day children are like silverware. You don't have to clean them that well, just get the food off.

While Jessica's learned her new role in parenthood, Louis figured out his new role as a consultant.

At the neighborhood meeting, Louis announced his new business, with the name still pending.

Big Changes - Fresh Off the Boat

The women of the neighborhood didn't hold back when criticizing Louis' lack of success for a business that he thought of not only a few episodes ago.

Though, they did have important criticism and initially helped him jumpstart the business. They used too many terms and concepts leaving me as clueless as Louis.  #womeninSTEM

Their comments and mockery sent him spiraling to try and pick up the pace of his business. He trapped Honey into being his first client and with the fast-growing success of her mommy blog, cleverly named "TMi: True Mommy Insights," he pushed her into becoming a sellout.

A truth about the patriarchy and capitalism? The CEOs of big businesses are men who weren't praised enough by their mothers or wives and seek to fulfill this emptiness by filling their pockets instead.

All jokes aside, Louis' business helped Honey explore a new passion and an outlet that not only allowed her to vent and find her sanity among the trials and hardships of motherhood but also to connect with other parents and put forth a relatable and conversational point of view.

The friendship between Louis and Honey is so pure and I only hope we see more of their dynamic in the future.

Honey: I lost a Ricola in my hair a week ago.
Louis: I saw it fall out yesterday.

Meanwhile, Jessica had lost the battle against the Piazze del Eastview.

Why are you all dressed like European hobos?

Jessica

Maybe Jessica needs more friends if her sons are the only other people she's looking to spend time with while her husband and best friend are busy building a blog and a business.

Grandma Huang has been killing it with the advice-giving these past few episodes. To Jessica's dismay when everyone else is taken, her only other choice is to sit on the couch and spend time with Grandma Huang.

Their dynamic is always entertaining because in between the jabs is love and respect. It's their way of communicating with each other since they're too similar for Jessica's own liking.

With the help of Grandma Huang and Louis, Jessica learned that the boys are finding their own interests and in order to spend quality time with them she needed to get off her high horse and connect with their own interests.

Louis and Honey learned a lesson of their own, that it's not good to mix personal life and work.

And now that Louis realized consulting is all about the client's needs and desires he's ready to take on the world of consulting. Here's hoping Louis finds more clients because he's quite successful with the whole business growth model.

Hey Jessica, brought you some baby food. Thought you might be hungry, but not want to chew.

Louis

Seeing Jessica come around in her own way was heartwarming, and I hope the boys find that they will always cherish spending time with her.

Because parenting is all about learning and recovering from mistakes. This is something Jessica will always be learning, that even she can make mistakes.

Additional Side Notes:

  • The self-inflicted view counter conundrum is still something I struggle with today. You'd think that algorithm would've been fixed years ago!

  • Louis' dad puns are so bad they're good. Some honorable mentions include "All About Lou Consulting," "Louinversal Consulting," and "C.S. Louis at the Chronicles of Consulting."

  • I did a double-take every time Louis used Honey's name. For a split second, I forgot he wasn't just using "Honey" as a pet name.

  • The Huang's certainly didn't help the stereotype of bad Asian drivers.

  • Honey looked more like the stereotypical anchorwoman than the actual anchorwoman.

  • We need more people like Honey's in the world. More integrity, less greed.

As the ending of the show nears, I can only hope for the Huang's to end on a great note. I hope Eddie gets into college, Louis' business continues successfully, and Jessica becomes a principal of a school.

What are your hopes for the limited episodes to come before the sad finale?
