John Stamos Recalls Phone Call With Lori Loughlin as College Admissions Scandal Broke

John Stamos is speaking about the moment he learned about the infamous college admissions scandal.

In his memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, the actor speaks about the moment he heard of the scandal and how Lori Loughlin, his Full House costar, was involved.

"Lori Loughlin continues to be a cherished friend to this day," John wrote, adding:

"We've weathered storms together and stood by each other's sides despite life's hurdles. We've seen each other at our worst."

Stamos recalled reaching out to Loughlin as the scandal broke, with the Aunt Becky star saying her phone may have been bugged.

"No matter how hard she was hit, how desperate everyone was to cancel her and throw her in with the pile of brutal criminals," John added. 

"She stood fast, protecting her daughters from the mud hurled at them day after day after day."

Stamos added his thanks for having such a lifelong friendship.

"I am thankful that she continues to be a significant part of my life (and my neighbor)."

John previously spoke out in defense of Lori, claiming she "didn't know what was going on" in a 2022 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.

"She wasn't really the architect of any of it," he said, adding that "she was in the way background."

"If you defend her then people get mad," the YOU alum shared.

"If you don't defend her, then you feel bad because she's a great person."

Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli both pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges for securing admission to the University of Southern California for their two daughters.

Loughlin served two months in jail and was ordered to pay a $150,000 fine and complete 150 hours of community service.

Mossimo served five months, paid a $250,000 fine, and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service.

"I've witnessed moments where giving up could have been the easiest way out for Lori," Stamos writes in his memoir.

"She could have shifted the blame and let her family, marriage, and life crumble.

"But she didn't. I'm not sure I could have taken the hit she did with the resilience she showed.

Loughlin wasn't the only high-profile celebrity sent to prison.

Loughlin's part in the scandal cost her lucrative jobs with Hallmark.

She starred as Abigail Stanton on When Calls the Heart and headlined various Garage Sale Mysteries movies.

When Calls the Heart wrote out Loughlin quickly, she returned to her beloved role in 2021.

When Hope Calls, the series' spinoff on GAC Family, featured Loughlin in her return to TV.

The star has appeared in movies on the cabler, with her next effort, A Christmas Blessing, set to launch Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Loughlin will star opposite James Tupper (Revenge, Big Little Lies) in the TV movie.

Loughlin plays "renowned TV star Mandy Gilmore, who is saying goodbye to her hit culinary series, A World of Food, so she can travel the globe and dine in all 142 Michelin star restaurants," according to Deadline.

"Before jetting to Paris, Mandy stops in Milwaukee with the deed to her deceased aunt's food pantry, Angel's Fare, recently purchased by adjacent business owner, Adam Carraway."
