American Crime Season 3 Episode 2 focuses on three storylines.

Kimara is still trying to help Shay, the young girl arrested for prostitution. She is being pressured to get someone to turn on Billy, the pimp, and tells Shay that Billy is in jail already. She tells Shay that she can turn her life around if she testifies and encourages her to do so. Shay doesn't want to because it means going to a shelter for nine months, but she eventually does it. The shelter has a ton of rules and Shay reveals to a doctor that she is pregnant and that it is not her first pregnancy. Meanwhile, Kimara goes to an old friend to talk about her problems with IVF and makes a very personal request.

In the fields, the new worker is not doing well and many of the HIspanics feel the white boy is slowing them down and making them look bad. In addition, one of the migrant workers searches for his son, who has disappeared. He learns his son was kicked off a farm for talking back to the owners and decides afterwards to stand up for himself and refuse to go with the farm owner who believes he owns him.

There is a fire at the family farm, and JD is drinking over it while Carson won't talk about it at all. Jeannette, refusing to be deterred, visits the farm herself and sees the deplorable conditions there.

Kimara: There are other girls...
Shae: Let one of them testify. I was begging people for money long before I met Billy. Why you gonna put him in jail for something I was doing anyway?

Look, this kid has been in and out of the system so many times. She's not gonna trust us cops. She's not gonna trust us prosecutors.
