Recap

The search for Matt continues, with base camp on Dexter's property.

Logan lets Harrison fly the drone. He asks if Harrison is interested in wrestling on the school team -- Logan is the assistant coach. Angela announces that there's been a break in the case and that they need to head back to the station.

Harrison and Dexter meet with the school principal. She notes her concerns -- the sudden drop in his GPA, which then subsequently rose again. Harrison explains that his stepmother died. Harrison explains that he moved from Argentina to Miami, where he was placed in foster care. The principal asks Dexter where he was during this time, but Harrison covers for him, saying "Jim" had no way of contacting them.

Tess, the science teacher, arrives and introduces herself to Harrison. He impresses her by speaking in Spanish.

Dexter heads over to the police station. Esther informs him that Angela is in a meeting -- reservation land management has footage of Matt shooting the deer. Angela calls Dexter into her office, where Kurt, Teddy, Logan, and a reservation worker are looking at footage.

They show Dexter the footage from an infrared camera, and Angela asks if the figure is carrying the same gun he sold to Matt. He confirms that it is, which confirms that Matt shot the deer. The reservation worker shows them additional footage of a second figure heading to the same place as Matt. Unfortunately, as the camera system is set up for animal tracking, not crime surveillance, they don't have footage of the two figures meeting.

Angela orders Teddy to inform tribal police, get CSI, and secure the crime scene. Kurt is angry and frustrated, taking it out on Angela. Angela explains that in light of this new evidence, it is now a criminal investigation. Dexters offers to make a list of everyone in town with a hunting license. Angela suggests interviewing everyone Matt spoke to in the 48 before he disappeared.

After finishing the placement test, Harrison runs into Zach and Scott. They are catfishing a nerd, Ethan, by sending texts pretending to be a beautiful girl.

Dexter brings Angela a list of all the hunting licenses. She laments that Kurt and others like him have doubted her abilities since she first became a cop. The crime scene investigator, Damien, arrives. Dexter and Kurt both ask if they can watch him work. Damien allows it, providing they stay out of the crime scene.

At the crime scene, Damien finds some blood that has coagulated differently. He tests it, revealing that it is human blood. Damien deduces that someone likely mixed it with the deer blood to avoid detection.

Damien describes what he believed happened (with accuracy) -- Matt and his attacker met at the deer's corpse, there was an altercation, and Matt fell back, hitting his head on a rock. Damien notes that the rock is missing. He suspects foul play.

Damien takes a swab from Kurt's mouth so that he can do a familial DNA test on the human blood. Dexter gets a call from the principal, asking him to come to the school.

At the school, the principal informs Dexter that Dexter has scored higher on the placement exam than any student ever. They suspect that he was cheating. Tess suggests that Harrison retake the exam. Harrison is disappointed that his dad doesn't have his back.

Later that evening, Angela informs Dexter that search dogs will be coming in the morning.

As Dexter brushes his teeth, Deb torments him, saying the dogs will find the body immediately. Harrison informs Dexter that he retook the test and got a higher score the second time.

At home, Kurt drinks alone. Angela calls to let him know that the results are in, and the blood is most likely Matt's. He berates her for thinking Matt was a criminal, but she points out that killing the buck on Seneca land was a crime. Angela informs him of her search efforts, all without government funding, and how much further they will go to find Matt.

In the middle of the night, Dexter digs up the body. He pulls out Matt's vest and runs all over the woods with it until he reaches the highway in order to create a false trail for the police dogs.

Where Lily is being held captive, the watcher suits up and presses a button that opens the door. Lily finds herself at the end of a hallway. She runs down the hall, up the stairs through hurricane doors, and into the cold night. She runs across a field of snow. At his front door, the watcher sets his target on her with his rifle and guns her down in one shot.

Dexter returns to find Harrison eating breakfast. Dexter lies, saying he had been helping birth a lamb. Harrison asks if Dexter will drive him to school, and they head out.

Logan approaches Dexter, explaining that Angela has tasked him with interviewing everyone who had spoken to Matt prior to his disappearance. Dexter says he has to take Harrison to school but will drop by the station at lunch.

The police dogs arrive. Angela gives them Matt's glove, and the dogs get to work.

Molly Park arrives, offering to help with the search. Angela directs her to Logan.

Dexter drops Harrison off at school. Deb suggests the lake or the cemetery as places to dispose of Matt's body -- or even putting him through a woodchipper. He dismisses the ideas as impractical and insists he is "one and done" -- he has no intention of killing again.

The watcher cleans Lily's body, drains her of blood, and begins embalming her.

Angela visits the reservation, looking for Johnny Bullhorn to ask about Matt. Angela runs into Miriam, who assures her that Johnny has been sick with the flu and she has been looking after him. Angela insists she is running the investigation the same as she would any other and requests that it not be made "about Iris." Miriam recalls how Iris had always wanted to move to the big city with Angela and start a band.

Harrison gets lunch in the school cafeteria. Audrey calls him over, but Harrison opts to sit with Ethan instead. Harrison tells him that Zach has been catfishing Ethan, and his online girlfriend isn't real.

Logan questions Dexter about his interactions with Matt. Logan also asks Dexter's habits in the woods -- some people have claimed to have seen him hunting, though he doesn't have a license. Dexter says he only goes hiking in the woods -- the gun is for protection only. Logan asks Dexter to identify the gun belonging to the second figure on the infrared footage, which he does -- it's a Remington 700, very common in Iron Lake. Logan continues to question Dexter about his whereabouts the day Matt disappeared, and Dexter keeps giving him answers.

Back at the store, Dexter contemplates what to do with the body. He considers the iron mine as a potential solution. He asks Fred Jr. if he can be let off early to help with the search, which Fred Jr. allows.

At school, Ethan, at Harrison's urging, sends a crude GIF of Zach having sex with a goat. Zach receives it and looks at Ethan. Ethan flips both middle fingers at Zach. Zach approaches, ready to attack Ethan, but Harrison grabs him by the neck and threatens him, telling him to leave Ethan alone. Audrey arrives, asking if Harrison would like a ride, and they leave together.

In the car, Audrey asks about the fight in the hallway. Harrison explains that Ethan told him he'd been tortured by Zach and the others since elementary school. Audrey says this is part of small-town life. Harrison says he's moved around a lot and wouldn't know. She asks him where he learned that choking move, and he says he picked up some things in foster care.

Audrey and Harrison visit the butcher to pick up some things for dinner. As Gig wraps up the sausages, he informs them that the white stag is still in his cooler. Audrey goes back to look at it, dismayed that such a creature is being so disrespected. Gig informs them it will be disposed of by sanitation, which disappoints Audrey. Harrison suggests that they do something with it instead.

Dexter gets his snowshoes on and heads out for a hike to the old iron mine.

Audrey asks about Harrison's relationship with his father, but he remains tight-lipped. Harrison asks about Audrey's father, to which she responds that he is dead. She divulges that Angela did not give birth to her, but she considers Angela to be her mom. Harrison notices Audrey's guitar in the back. The car breaks down.

Audrey deduces that the radiator is busted. Harrison is impressed with her knowledge of cars. Audrey gets no signal where they are, so she sends Harrison down the road with her phone to call the auto shop.

Meanwhile, Dexter has reached the mine.

A car pulls up behind Audrey. It's Edward Olson. He gets out and asks if she needs a ride, but  Audrey tells him Harrison is already calling for help. He suggests she could wait in his car to keep warm, but she refuses his offers, stating that she knows who he is and how he's destroying the planet. He points out that she is driving a gas-powered automobile and leaves. Harrison returns.

Dexter checks out the mine, finding a deep shaft that could work for his purposes. However, a bear comes out of the darkness, and Dexter has to make a run for it. He gets a phone call from Angela, asking him over for dinner. He initially refuses, but when he finds out Audrey has invited Harrison, he agrees.

Ethan calls Harrison to thank him for standing up to Zach and the others for him. He shows Harrison some pictures he has drawn -- horrific bloody images of violence being inflicted on the bullies.

At dinner, Angela informs Audrey, Dexter, and Harrison that the police dogs failed to find anything. Audrey mentions that Molly Park, the true-crime podcaster, is in town. Dexter says she was in the store earlier, picking up supplies. Harrison asks Audrey if she's into true crime, which she confirms.

Angela tells Audrey and Harrison that Abraham called her earlier, telling her about their trip to the reservation. Audrey explains that she just wanted to honor the deer. Angela agrees, saying she would have done so had she not had other priorities. Audrey suggests a bonfire. Dexter revels in the fact that he's having dinner with a family. Audrey and Harrison ask Dexter if he can help transport the deer carcass that night.

They take the stag to the Seneca people, who burn in it a ceremonial bonfire.

As they leave, Dexter apologizes for not standing up for Harrison. Harrison thanks him, calling him "dad" for the first time.

Dexter realizes he can burn Matt's body at the town incinerator and does so. On his way back, he runs into Kurt Caldwell, who is drunk and celebrating. Kurt explains that he has just spoken with Matt on FaceTime. Dexter offers Kurt a ride home, confused about why Kurt would lie.

Bears. Dogs. I miss the days when the only animals I had to worry about were alligators.
