Recap

Bentley has a nightmare about the shooting. He is talking in his sleep. Quinlan awakens him and he says he doesn't remember dreaming and goes into the bathroom.

Regina gives a press conference and says there has been a lack of communication between the cops and the community. A woman wants her kids to be safe walking to and from school. She wants to do solo patrols. Suarez is annoyed she didn't tell him ahead of time and he points out the union won't like it.

There is a fire at a hair salon. Regina visits the site. A fire marshal says they have to tell next of kin about a body found in the building. Regina guesses that's next of kin standing behind the police barrier.

The Deputy Mayor is angry and says that the same people who support this will call the cops an invading army. And he wants the unions to support him and they won't like this.

The fire marshal says that there is evidence of arson but it isn't conclusive. She thinks the person who set the fire might be the dead guy, but they can't prove it yet.

Quinlan asks Sandeford how Bentley is. He doesn't think she can speed up the process. He says we'll see if Bentley is cut out for this job. Bentley walks in on them laughing and Quinlan covers.

The cops go to speak to the owner of the salon. The owner seems shocked that the fire might be deliberate. They want to look at the insurance policy. Also, did they let anyone go recently? They say they fired a manager who had stolen from them.

Regina wants them to talk to employees without their boss present.

The union trustee is on TV saying Regina is being reckless and causing police officers to get injured. Cha says Sharpe is having a meltdown. Suarez says unions always object. Cha wants Suarez to make Regina stop. She says this is a bad policy and Suarez has to convince Regina of it.

The cops speak to two women who know nothing about Cheik Sy.

The ME talks to Killian and is practically manic as he tells MKillian the victim had piercings -- it looks like Cheik Sy is the dead guy.

The cops talk to Cheik's sister who says he doesn't steal or set fires. However, he acted differently recently and was always on the phone or not home. She looked and wrote down the number but was scared to ask him.

Suarez tells Regina that she has to slow this policy down and insists it isn't political. He doesn't think she wants to risk her job on this policy.

It turns out Cheik was takling to one of the employees, the one who claimed she never had anything to do with him. She says his sister and her boyfriend are jealous.

The cops talk to her boyfriend who says she can do what she wants. He also says he was working when the fire happened. He says Sy was gay.Killian gets an image from the ME who says Sy was stabbed and died before the fire.

The weapon has been found but there are no prints because of the fire. Anyway Sy went to a gay bar twice a week.

Regina talks to the anti-cop podcaster and she wants to know if he endorses the policy -- if he does, she wants him to broadcast that.

Bentley would like a foot post. Sandeford says you can't be late either way and that Bentley took too long at the dispensary sting. They tail a suspect and see they are waiting for something on 29th Street. A truck comes Morales' way. Sandeford and Bentley have to follow the suspects on foot. There are people in the back of the truck. The cops move in. THe witness says the owners of the salon are behind the trafficking scheme.

Bentley asks Quinlan what she and Sandeford were talking about.

The DA says this is going to be difficult to prove. Also if the judge lets them post bail, the suspects are gone.

Sharpe is mad that the podcaster likes Regina's idea and says that the unions hate the idea but the next mayor should be aware how great the policy is.  He wants to know if Regina put the guy up to this. Cha says Sharpe is in a tough spot. Sharpe says now he has to answer questions and didn't need this. Suarez says he can't do anything about this. Cha says she can spin this to their advantage.

Morales and Killian interrogate the woman who was involved in trafficking. She says the trafficked women weren't slaves. The ME shows up with lots of evidence about how Sy was killed. The cops say that they have fingerprints on the scissors. They convince her to talk. She says her husband brings girls over to work. Sy started asking questions and got the girls worried and asking questions too. So her husband offered him money to be quiet. Sy called them slavemasters. She went upstairs and when she came down Sy was bleeding from his neck so her husband set a fire to cover it up.

Dr. Corli is very happy about his performance. Regina knows him. He starts talking about his dog that died. He is getting a new puppy.

Chas and Suarez meet in a rainstorm. SHe is worried about Suarez getting disillusioned. He promises he has his eyes open. He is doing this because he wants to be commissioner. She asks him to have dinner with her.

Regina talks to her therapist who says she doesn't need to see her anymore to be fit for duty. She is happy to talk to her personally. Regina talks to her about Sean. Her therapist thinks it has to do with Regina's father doing the same thing. Regina wants to talk about her father.

East New York Season 1 Episode 13 Quotes

Suarez: I didn't know what my day would be like. Now I'm going to spend it answering for you.
Regina: But you do agree it's worthwhile to give it a try?
Suarez: Yes, but...
[Suarez leaves.]
Yenko: At least we got him on principle.

With all due respect, seeing five cops reading their phones doesn't make us feel safe.
