- Helen and Max carry on having sex.
- Three weeks later and Max is still on cloud nine, spreading cheer and laughter around New Amsterdam and genuinely happy.
- All the doctors and employees are returning to the hospital after months of holding appointments via zoom, and all to varying degrees of change.
- Iggy talks to his new students and residents of his psych program as the new director of the psychology department.
- Leyla starts her first day as an intern under Lauren's tutelage. She announces to everyone right off the bat that Leyla is her girlfriend.
- Floyd talks about his feelings and the loss of a woman he was into with Malvo's husband.
- Just as Max is giving a speech about embracing joy and new beginnings, alarms blare. The building is on fire.
- Post-coitus, Max is romantic and loving, and Helen feels like she shouldn't have let him inside.
- The explosion at the hospital was arson, and they deduce that the person who did it was familiar with the layout.
- a former professional athlete is in with gout, and Lauren mentions they damn near need a new selfie wing when someone comes in after falling over a fire escape while taking a selfie.
- Lauren is too complimentary of Leyla and seems like she's giving her special treatment which the rest of the interns and residents notice.
- Dr. Baptisite sends Floyd up to work with Lyn, and things are tense.
- Max asks Iggy about a profile of people at the hospital with pyromania. He heads to where the inmates are.
- Helen tells Max that after visiting home she realizes there was so much of her life that she left there, and tells him that she needs to go home.
- Max still meets with Dr. Wilder who waits for him .She's Deaf and interviewing for Helen's job in Oncology. She's a Helen fangirl and is shocked by the news.
- She's perfect for the job, and Max hires her on the spot.
- Iggy meets with the inmate, Mary, with knowledge about fire. She wants to go to the burn site. She gives him enough of a profile for him to consider it.
- Brandon, the pro athelete is back in the hospital right after getting released. He o'd on the drugs that one of the residents/interns gave him because she wrote the prescription down wrong.
- Floyd attempted to talk to Lyn when the building exploded.
- Max tells Helen that they can do long-distance to make it work after she tells him about the hospital in London that needs her. He screams that he loves her outside and threatens to run naked through the streets anything to fight for their chance. She tells him she loves him and agrees.
- Mary helps Iggy realize that the arsonist is trying to erase pain. He blew up the COVID units and they clear out the nursery which could be the second explosion spot.
- Max and Helen try to work out their schedule for the next time they'll be together, but there's no time they can agree on which makes things a bit daunting.
- Max talks down an employee of the hospital who lost his wife to COVID and never got to be with her becaue of the restrictions. He got angry when Max asked him to make the room where his wife died sunny to brighten things up.They arrest him.
- Brandon messed up his dosage because he has dyslexia. No one ever cared about his education because he was an athelete and a meal ticket.
- Iggy turns Mary over to his students to see if they want to take her on.
- Wilder declines the offer to work there because she knows Max wants Helen.
- Helen meets Max on the rooftop. He tells her that she's his joy and he can't live without that. He also tells her that he didn't find her replacement, but he found someone who can replace him. He's going with her. They kiss.
