Caroline insists that they plan her mother's funeral in one day, so her friends rally to help her. Elena notices some troubling behavior from Caroline which she eventually discovers is part of Caroline's plan to turn off her humanity once her mother's funeral is over.

Stefan discusses kissing Caroline with Damon and Damon tells him that if he doesn't love Caroline, he needs to let her go. During the funeral, Stefan realizes that he does feel something for Caroline, but it's nothing he's ever felt before. Damon tells him to go and get the girl but by the time he arrives at her house, Caroline is gone.

Kai shows up at Jo's house vomiting blood. He needs her magic if he is to survive. If he doesn't survive the entire Gemini coven will die. His illness causes ripples in the prison world which briefly send Bonnie to 1903.

Bonnie finally completes the spell and returns home to Mystic Falls. She greets Damon with pancakes.
