Better Off Ted Recap: "Pilot"

at . Comments

ABC's new office comedy, Better Off Ted, has the cast, the style and the quirkiness to make it a hit.  So how was the pilot to this eagerly anticipated series by Emmy-nominated Victor Freco?

Ted and His Scientists

Well, honestly, it started off a little weak.  The plot was definitely there (read our pilot recap).  The witty lines were even there.  The style was definitely there.  But there were very few moments that were laugh out loud funny.

Don't get us wrong, we're definitely tuning in next week to see how this show matures.  I mean just read some of the following quotes from the episode and tell me this show doesn't have potential:

Ted: Okay, people, we need to turn this simple festive gourd into a killer. I've asked Dr. Bamba to take a look at how Nature does it, because Nature is a fantastic killer of things | permalink
Veronica: So this thing with Phil, making that stupid face and yelling, they think it's distracting.
Ted: I guess in hindsight they shouldn't have vitrified his brains.
Veronica: Look, I'm not going to play the blame game with you | permalink
Rose: I like Phil.
Ted: Maybe you'll like him even more when he's frozen.
Rose: I like him the temperature he is. Phil came to my birthday. It's wrong to freeze someone who came to your daughter's birthday | permalink
Don't worry, we're still giving it another week and we think you should too.

Better Off Ted Quotes

Janet: The company doesn't make mistakes.
Ted: What about that memo announcing "Casual Fribsday"?
Janet: The company said that wasn't a mistake. They explained that the ancient Mayans prophesied Fribsday--the first ever eighth day of the week which will occur in 2024. Which the company believes should be celebrated casually. I'm going to wear a denim pantsuit.
Ted: And when they urged all employees to "carpoop"?
Janet: That wasn't mandatory. Thank God.
Ted: Although we did find out what people would do to park slightly closer to the building.
