Grey's Anatomy Review: "Superfreak"

at . Comments

If there ever were an episode of Grey’s Anatomy that would make you realize that importance of practicing safe sex, “Superfreak” would be it, introducing viewers to a very rare condition that happens to some unfortunate people who catch HPV.

This disease is known as Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) and pretty much causes your limbs to turn into tree like branches and tumors all over your body.

Grey's Leading Lady

I really sympathized with Lexie’s initial reaction to when she first saw the patient. What’s even more scary is the fact that HPV happens to be one of the most commonly sexually transmitted diseases these days and EV can happen to anyone from any race. Yikes!

Okay, back to my review.

I couldn’t agree with Meredith more when she told April that she’s growing on her at the end of the episode. There’s something endearing about the fact that she’s a 28-year-old virgin, especially in our Jersey Shore day and age.

I really can’t wait to see April not only lose her virginity, but find a man! Maybe she and Alex can hit it off? How would you feel about that?!

Poor Cristina. After a traumatic episode last week, she’s still not really ready to be back inside the OR. Since Andrew is leaving, I think that only way she’s going to get over her fear is to have another traumatic experience happen to her to jolt her back into the reason she fell in love with it in the first place.

I did have warm, fuzzy feelings when Derek told Cristina that she’s family and her talent is too amazing to throw away. Since she was the one person who saved his life, maybe he will be the one person to save her life as a surgeon.

For those of you that don’t follow her character on Private Practice, we were finally introduced to one of Derek’s sisters, Amelia, and by the looks of her steamy scene with Mark at the end, we definitely are in for some major drama!

Sometimes, I wonder why Lexie can be so dense. Even April could see that Mark is totally in love with her and when she finally goes to see him, what else would she expect from the once playboy of his time? I still have hope for these two, do you?

Callie and Arizona were pretty funny trying to figure out a way to get Cristina out of their love nest and as it turned out, the only thing they needed to do is show her that three really can be a crowd. This scene is very reminiscent of the time when Cristina was trying to get George out of her place with Burke.

From the looks of it, Meredith is definitely ready to get back into surgery. She got the pass from the doc, so what’s the deal? Why wasn’t Meredith and her talents used this week?

Another one of our favorite doctors, Karev, showed that, he too, is still dealing with PTSD. Finally, with the chief’s help, he was able to ride the elevator again. Think he's over it?

Probably the most hilarious part from last night’s episode was watching Bailey freak out when a spider crawled out of the man’s hands during surgery. Everyone has a fear of something and Miranda's happens to be spiders. Who knew?

Overall, I enjoyed last night’s episode, but I did feel a bit unsatisfied. Maybe it had something to do with the whole Lexie and Mark situation. Ugh! Can’t these two just get back together already?!

Until next week, here are a few of my favorite Grey’s Anatomy quotes from last night:

April: I'm a virgin. That doesn't make it drinks conversation. We all have stuff we don't talk about.
Meredith: Oh April. I'm liking you more and more.
April: Thank you. | permalink
Meredith: Nobody chooses to be a freak. Most people don't realize they're a freak until it's way to late to change it. No matter how much of a freak you end up being, chances are there's still someone out there for you. Unless of course, they've already moved on. Because when it comes to love, even freaks can't wait forever. | permalink
Bailey: Give me back my bottle.
Callie: Teddy needs it she's pathetic. | permalink
Derek: You're flaming out. And as someone who cares about you, it's not okay. I've seen a lot of residents come and go and very very few with your potential. It's not okay.
Cristina: I can barely remember it. You're whole procedure. I took a bullet out of your chest and all I can remember is bits and pieces. Bits and pieces that come back at very inconvenient times, so end of story. | permalink
Lexie: What?
Mark: Nothing. | permalink
Cristina: Would you love me if I wasn't a surgeon?
Owen: I would love you if you were a plumber, but would you love you if you weren't a surgeon?
Cristina: I don't know, maybe? | permalink
Callie: Look away. Stop staring at her.
Mark: I can't. | permalink
Meredith: April, don't talk about Cristina. Just mind your own business.
April: I'm sorry. I was just concerned. I'll try not to be. | permalink
Teddy: I'm not GI Jane, I'm attachment Barbie. | permalink
Meredith: I think they're talking about you. It's going to be okay. They can't kick you out of the program for being traumatized.
Cristina: I don't care what they do.
Derek: Dr. Yang you're with me.
Meredith: What, no, I'm with you?
Derek: You have someone else. We're walking Dr. Yang. | permalink
Derek: (regarding Cristina) She goes I go. | permalink

I just cannot stand any program that has to explain before and after the episode what happens or what did happen. If that information cannot get across by acting, then it is time for a better cast.

LOVED this episode up until the end with Mark and Derek's sister...I really really want Mark and Lexie back together. Its really sad whats happening with Cristina I hope she can get her head back in the game soon. Teddy's storyline is boring the crap out of me. I really would like to see Teddy and Owen together and Cristina with Avery. April is growing on me (never thought Id say that) and I would love to see Alex deflower her...Kinda nervous about next week with MerDer at the doctors...lets hope its good news...

Terrible episode.....I hate that fact that Shonda made the virgin look like a prude, April couldn't even say condom give me a break!! Mark is an ass, Hoping that Christina comes back she made the show. Please bring back some patients.

WHY MUST YOU STICK A KNIFE IN MY HEART, SHONDA? This episode was great, then we get the Mark/Lexie scene at the end! They are my GA OTP! It's killing me they aren't back together already, but I still have hope that they will at some point. I know it probably won't be right away, but I'd rather not die of heartbreak before then Lol

The only way I'm going to love April is if she hooks up with Alex and they have a normal relationship. Wasn't surprise about April being a virgin. I sick of the writers putting Mer and April together, it looks like they have are manipulating the audience into liking April, and I don't like being manipulate. I would give April a chance anyway without having her in every scene with Meredith.

This episode was ALMOST, VERY CLOSE to being perfect- Lexie went to Mark, but if he wasn't with Amelia, this episode would have been perfect!!

I agree with about the "jolt back" for Cristina... It's the only way and only chance we have left... And I sooooooo agree with you about Lexie and Mark... why can't they be together!! What is taking them so long !! I mean, seriously !! I definetly still have hope ! Am I being too enthusiastic... I don't know.
The part about when Cristina tried to get George out of the apartment, I didn't see that and you're right, it the same !
And I too felt unsatisfied even if I loved the episode, really, but thos two... grrrrrrrr it's so frustrating !!!!

Can we PLEASE have April leave the show! I am sick & tired of her character and every scene she pops up RIGHT next to Der or Mer. Come on! And Stop having Mer push her on the audience! I am sick and tired of her saying 'if we are going to be friends' or her saying she likes her better after she told everyone they have stuff they don't want to talk about. April is a very annoying character. I love everyone else!

i liked the episodee, but really only have one complaint and that would be christina. i love her character, but i do not know how long i am going to be able to stand her not doing surgery. she was the one who always stole the good cases and was 'dark and twisty' in her own special way. i miss that. i really hope she gets over her phobia sometime soon.

I like Derek's line to Cristina when he told her that they would never have chosen each other to be a part of their lives. But because of Mer, they're a part of their lives. He's really concerned about her and it's nice that he's there. I agree, April and Alex might be something. Possible. From her blow up, it looks like she's not going to take crap from him either. And she's already crazy so he doesn't have to worry about that.

Grey's Anatomy Season 7 Episode 3 Quotes

(regarding Cristina) She goes I go.

Most surgeons grew up as freaks. While other kids played outside, we hold up in our rooms memorizing our periodic table, hovering for hours over our junior microscopes, dissecting our first frogs.
