once again the writers of HIMYM have demonstrated their inconsistancy and inabilty to keep a steady flow to the show. the show was a 'C' at best. it wasnt that funny, it wasnt that witty, and in fact it was rather cheesey. yes i want barney to meet his father, but it just wasnt entertaining. not to mention i cant look at john the same way- i dont think ill ever forgive him for what he did to Rita... but thats another story. there were a couple funny parts, but at the end of the show i had that feeling i have had all too often lately of not caring to remain involved with the show. i also dont know whats with these writers and their daddy issues, but is that what this entire season is about? kinda weird at this point. i guess next week will be about robins father once again wishing she was a boy? and the following week we will find out teds father hit him as a child? i mean, lets try and get back to humor, the very thing this show is based on.
@Jenna, they also call Robin 'Aunt Robin.' It's not uncommon for people with very close friends to have their children call the unrelated friends 'aunt' or 'uncle.' I spent some of the first season thinking Ted was going to marry Robin's sister, even though I didn't know if she had one or not. Narrator Ted has called all the core cast 'aunt' or 'uncle' at some point.
I thought this was a great episode. I've always liked John Lithgow and it was nice to see him NOT being a super creepy serial killer.

I think you're right mike, because he calls him Uncle Barney.. If he marries Barneys sister than technically he would be there uncle.

The intervention was about him being shallow and not giving it a chance. Barney seemingly turned away from the relationship because his dad was a milk drinking, acid induced old man who is the furthest from himself in terms of personality. it was fine, though probably a little unnecessary to have an Intervention about it.
I thought the gaps were a little far fetched tbh, ted not knowing how to say Chameleon? how believable is that?! Lily not being able to throw? okay a bit more believable but kinda common if you think about it. The Robin one was good though.

i think the intervention went too far. it's one thing to have one for a problem, or annoying habits, but this was something personal he was going through. his dad abandoned him, he shouldn't be pressured into forgiving him

@Mike thats kind of a good point, because we do know the mother is currently a student at college, as was Barney's half sister. Another point though is, if she went to school so close (because she would have to live pretty close to attend the University Ted teaches at), how come she wouldn't arrive for such an important dinner for her dad? Questions...

Love John Lithgow. He is such a good actor! The scenes with him and NPH were leg-an-dary!!! I hope they bring him back.

You forgot to mention Robin's North Pole quip. I thought that was the best comedic line of the night!

Great episode. I have a theory though. Barney's dad said he has two kids, a son and a daughter. At the dinner we saw the son. Wouldn't that be something if his daughter was THE MOTHER. So the wedding Ted attends where he meets his future wife will hopefully be Barney and Robins and of course the future mother will be there because it's her half brothers wedding. I'm probably waaaaaaaaay off but that would be something?!
