The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "Ordinary People"

at . Comments

Poor Rebekah. And darn you, Klaus!

The Vampire Diaries took fans way, way back on "Ordinary People," giving viewers a new reason to sympathize with one Original and despise another. Come along with Matt Richenthal, Steve Marsi, Dan Forcella and Eric Hochberger now as they conduct a new version of the TV Fanatic Round Table...

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: The bond formed between Elijah, Klaus and Rebekah. Considering what we had just witnessed in the flashback, and all we know happened between these siblings since then, it was a seminal series moment, one played very well by all involved.

Steve: The Salvatore brothers at the Grill. It's been awhile since these two really caught up.

Dan: Mikael showing up at the bar and putting the hurt on Damon was pretty awesome. He seems to be the next in a long line of Vampire Diaries bad asses.

Eric: How lame would if I followed Dan and Steve's lead and went with the Salvatore brothers and Mikael at the bar? Very? Okay, well then call me lame 'cause... wow.  Intense.

There was no major cliffhanger: Refreshing or irritating?
Matt: Wait, there was no major cliffhanger. Aren't we supposed to be wondering if Damon and Elena got it on later that night? No? What if they did?!?

Steve: Refreshing. As the saying goes, if everyone's special, no one is. If there's a major cliffhanger every week, it deprives the really big ones of the same impact. There's only so many events a show can come up with - even TVD - that don't feel forced or done for the sake of it. I'm glad the writers recognize that.

Dan: Refreshing. It will only make next week's super duper cliffhanger that much more exciting.

Eric: Just fine. Next week is a midseason finale (when did the CW start doing those?!?), and I'm pretty sure the king of cliffhangers will give us a crazy one then. And besides, were they really worried I wasn't going to tune in next week anyway? Kevin should probably worry more about losing me from The Secret Circle. (And yes, Kevin Williamson and I are on a first name basis.)

What is your favorite Vampire Diaries flashback episode?
Matt: "Blood Brothers." My favorite Vampire Diaries episode of all-time.

Steve: This one by a mile. In Matt's interviews with them, Joseph Morgan and Claire Holt both promised major reveals regarding the mythology of the Originals, and boy did they deliver. It's the epitome of what a TV flashback episode should be but often is not, an extrapolation of past events that directly shape the present narrative. Plus, how great was the almost overlooked return of Daniel Gillies, and how effing badass is Sebastian Roche?!?

Dan: "Klaus." This was the first time we met a Klaus who did not look like Ric Saltzman. The flashbacks to the late 1400s revealed that Elijah and Klaus were brothers, that Klaus was indeed a hybrid and everything about his curse. Fascinating stuff by all accounts.

Eric: While I thought this one was phenomenal, with some nice shocking reveals, I guess I'm just a sappy guy and there's nothing like my first time. That entire first season was unreal, as we were introduced to Katherine and the Salvatore boys before they turned. It's what hooked me on TVD.

Bigger sin: Klaus killing his own mother, Stefan preying on a beautiful bar tender, or the writers keeping Caroline off the screen for an entire hour?
Matt: Klaus killing his own mother. Dude pulled her heart out of her chest. There's really no coming back from that. As for the other two: as if a majority of bartenders wouldn't want Paul Wesley feeding on them, come on! And it's okay for Caroline to take a week off. Absence. Heart. Fonder. All that.

Steve: Obviously Klaus killing his mom, because at least Caroline will be back. This brings up an interesting point about last night. Depriving us of Ms. Forbes for an entire week was pretty brutal for a group of guys who adore Candice Accola, but did we miss the other MIA characters played by actors we aren't in love with? Without naming names (Matty, Bon-Bon, Kat, any and all ghosts), there are some extraneous characters on this show that need to be done away with or given something more interesting to do. "Ordinary People" proved this more than ever.

Dan: There is no bigger sin than depriving us from seeing Candice Accola on a weekly basis. Fine! Killing your own mother might come close, but I'm not as mad at Klaus for that. He's still my boy.

Eric: I think we all know my answer to this one. Where the heck was Caroline Forbes?!? Was she busy petitioning people to vote for her for as sexiest sidekick? If so, step up your game girl. We're losing to Sarah Walker!!! #teamcaroline

Next week is the 2011 finale. Make one bold prediction about what's to come on it.
Matt: Tyler will be named Homecoming King. Caroline will not be named Homecoming Queen. in protest, Eric Hochberger will claim he's done with The Vampire Diaries forever.

Steve: My wife will call it the greatest episode of any show ever... a rare title she has bestowed upon only 15-20 Vampire Diaries episodes so far.

Dan: They will finally make the (outstanding) decision to kill off Katherine. She will return... only to get staked by Mikael in a fit of rage after Klaus escapes his grasps yet again.

Eric: Mikael will seemingly kill Klaus as the cliffhanger. But, don't worry, Joseph Morgan will return in 2012 because Klaus is way too bad ass. Of course, I say this with no prior knowledge because I'm an avid Vampire Diaries spoilers evader.

I can't wait for the new episode!! The episode will be amazing. I think either Klaus, Rebekah, or Mikael will die.

In this episode, I felt I learned a lot about the original family.
My favorite scene was the flashback scenes because the told my about the original family.
I think that there should have been a cliffhanger, because they make the next episode interesting.
My fav.flashback episode was this one, because like I said before it told the backstory of the original family.
Biggest Sin: Finding out that Klaus of all people, killed his mother:
I thought that it was mikael the entire hour, but was an even bigger shock was that Klaus killed his mother. I mean sure Esther put the hybrid curse on her own child, but she was only doing what she thought was right. And she only wanted to protect her family. She was also the original witch, and she was afraid of what would happen? But she also turned her back on Niklaus, which I guess is the reason why Klaus is the reason why he is the way is his.

I think that KLAUS WILL KILL MIKAEL... That would be the cliffhanger. However, and I'm just making a prediction, by the season finale Rebekah will be the one to kill Klaus, because of what he did to their mother. Just saying.

I am next to sure that Tyler is related to Klaus. Maybe that is why he is "sired"?
I fear that Rebekha has to die next episode, now that she gained all our sympathies last thursday... Klaus probably will not die. But I suspect that there is a reason we do not know what happened to Katherine - I have a feeling that Mikael might feed on one of our vampires (Stefan, Damon, Caroline???)and that would be a tremendous cliffhanger - for us to guess if hes/shes alive...

1. Fave Scene: All of them?! Last week was a sucky episode butI liked practically every scene. The final conversation between Elena and Rebekah (watch out new favorite vamp blonde is Rebekah. She is awesome. Simply put). The Salvatore bonding...they are the reason I love this favorite relationship, the most important relationship the bond between brothers. The cute Delena scene at the end...because whether you ship them or not...the chemistry and warped friendship between the two is what makes them so interesting. I didn't wish for kissing in this, I didn't wish for fighting, I just liked the sweetness and simplicity of the moment. 2.Refreshing I guess. It was so great an episode I hadn't realized that there weren't cliffies. Besides next week they'll make up for it with a kajillion. 3.This one. Change the names and it's all the same. Rebekah was the original Elena with wanting to just be a girl. Klaus was the original Damon with being broken over his father not loving him. ELijah was the original Stefan with lurking about, brooding, and being the moral compass. Witch chick was the original Emily. It was interesting and informative. 4.The gross lack of Elijah despite his return! Oh, no? Not an option? Kay...Klaus killing his mom. In the end family is family you know? I mean sure she was the worst mom ever by rejecting him but not worthy of killing her. Let it roll off your back man! Besides, I'd let Stefan feed on me as long as he didn't kill me, and as much as I like Caroline I welcome a break from her. Besides, Rebekah more than made up for it! P.S the real crime is not that Caroline lost as sexy sidekick but Donna from Suits...travesty if I ever seen one. 5. THE UNDAGGERING OF ELIJAH!!!!!!!!!!!! That's what's going on my TVD wishlist for the midseason finale. Why is it taking so long? I'm thinking Rebekah might do it or elena. This needs to happen people. How they let that man stay in a coffin so long is beyond me.

Next week is the 2011 finale. Make one bold prediction about what's to come on it. Rebekah helps Mikael find where Klaus parks his truck and they both un-dagger the rest of the siblings!

1) Favorite scene: Damon and Stefan scenes. Their relationship is the core of the series. 2) No cliffhanger: No prob. On TVD, a Delena scene equals a cliffhanger. 3) Favorite flashback episode: Blood brothers -see 1)- and Klaus. Ordinary people is the exact continuation of the story Elijah started to tell in Klaus. 4) Bigger sin: Klaus killing his mom AND lying to his brother and sister about it AND puting the blame on Mikael AND killing (momentarily) the rest of the family AND fooling and killing (momentarily) Elijah right after he saved his hybrid ass AND turning and killing Jenna... 5) I haven't the slightest idea of what will happen next week. Delena? Original family reunion?

Not very bold prediction: Katherine is brought back to play - maybe to do a little switcheroo with Elena in their trap for Klaus?

1. My favorite scene was Rebekah breaking was heartbreaking. 2. Refreshing. The way the episode played out, a cliffhanger wasn't necassary. 3. I agree with Matt "Blood Brothers", it is also my favorite episode of all time. It is the one episode I could tell you everything about because it made that much impact for me. 4. Klaus, I see why he did but it doesn't mean it wasn't a heartwrenching betrayal. 5. Someoneone is going to die....hopefully lol.

Well, what a pleasant episode! Though i too miss Candice, of course. What was your favorite scene from the episode? Usually anything with Elijah in it, but he was really given the "extras" treatment this time. So probably where Elena is on the bed with Damon and tells him his brother loves him more than anyone else - such a family show! There was no major cliffhanger: Refreshing or irritating? I'm glad they arent falling into a "Vampire Diaries - 24", omg Jack Bauer that got tiresome! I think its about respecting the viewers enough not to feed them candy all the time. Bit of broccoli makes dessert all that better.
OK maybe not broccoli. Bigger sin: Klaus killing his own mother, Stefan preying on a beautiful bar tender, or the writers keeping Caroline off the screen for an entire hour? Very much the latter. Caroline is everywoman + hot. When she's on the screen everything becomes better. Hey whaddya think Caroline and ELijah? Carojah Next week is the 2011 finale. Make one bold prediction about what's to come on it. Well Klaus meets his nemesis for sure and they play the latest indie version of Metallica's Unforgiven. Said nemesis apparently kills Klaus, because Rebekah hesitates in doing her bit, because she's a bit mad with Klaus.
Somebody (caroline :D) frees elijah because we just neeeeed him back in the show - im always gonna fel that. Elena kisses Jake. Wait sorry wrong show. Most importantly the damn original witch comes back because she's been farting on the other side since last episode and she really wants her chain back.
