Two and a Half Men Producers Ponder Future of Ashton Kutcher at PaleyFest

Forget storyline spoilers or season finale scoop. For Two and a Half Men at its PaleyFest Q&A last night, the topic kept coming back to one man: Ashton Kutcher.

Will he return for a second season?

"I'm adoring the time I'm having," the actor said of his of his situation and contract, which only runs for one year, adding of his future: "I haven't heard from the powers that be yet."

Ashton Kutcher at PaleyFest

At this, executive producer Chuck Lorre laughed and said he isn't the "power," while making it clear it's basically Ashton or bust for the sitcom.

"I don't see any reason to continue without him," Lorre said. "He's a delight, he's a really nice man and he's a really easy-going guy, he's very relaxed and very professional. He shows up and he's ready to work, he's prepared and he brings it."

Fellow producer Lee Aronsohn agreed.

"He's been willing to try anything and he brings a lot of smarts to the character and he's a complete professional. I've got nothing but great things to say about him."

What about that ex-star? The one who forced executives to check TMZ every morning, as Aronsohn joked. Lorre didn't direct any insults at Charlie Sheen, but merely expressed shock at where the program has ended up.

"A year ago today I know we thought the show was over," he said. "And it was hurtful and heartbreaking. There was no closure. It was just a very, very dark time. And to have the show be reborn like this and have fun doing it... it's been a great year."

The character of Charlie Harper was loosely created on Charlie Sheen Charlie Sheen was the core of the show, and many of the jokes and writing revolved around his excessive lifestyle, which has included excessive abuse over years. Charlie was the show, and if he's able to reconcile with Chuck Loree, it would be nice to see on the show one final time.

I dont like the new season at all the show died with charlie now its a joke and not a funny one epic fail losers

When you got rid of sheen you killed the show I dont know one person that likes the new episodes charlie was the show you guys fucked up the show badly

I'm watching the old 2 1/2 men I I'm writing, Charlie sheen will never be replaced on the show, he is the show, the characters are hilarious, there would of been so much u could of done with the show since Jake had a little sister, there soo much u could do with Jake in his teenage years. I would of loved to see Charlie see him finally graduate high school!! I do not watch the new series, I am a big fan of the old show and always watched it. If I was you bring back Charlie, so what he made a mistake, we're all human. I do watch his new show and love it! I would love to see Charlie reappear! I would be glued tongue chair... Muss u Charlie!!!!

I like the show but not as much as I did when Charlie was in it. The main reason why I don't like it this year is that they're making Jake into a pot-head and I think that sends out permission for the teenagers to smoke. Jake should be seen going to school, dating girls, having a part time job, etc. As a teenager, younger kids look up to him and if they see him smoking they'll think it's okay also.
Now, for Allen...WTH is going on with him. He's more needier now than with Charlie. His character is very annoying and he's such a leech. He's taking everything he can from "Walden". He needs to be a man and to stop acting so feminine.

There IS a reason not to renew the show- it is really bad now!!! In fact in my opinion it is terrible!!!! I watched every episode of the old show at least a couple of times- and that was the funniest show on the air!!
The new show is so stupid- I try to watch and each time I am more and more disappointed in the scripts, acting and introduction of new characters when this show had the best cast ever and besides Sheen`s departure, they are not even using any of the old cast!!!!!
Lorre was right when he said last year with Sheen`s departure, the show was over-- IT IS OVER - PUT IT TO BED BEFORE YOU DESECRATE ITS` MEMORY FOREVER!!!!!
I can`t believe in good conscience that there is an audience for this show anymore- I think they are lying- NO ONE can like this!!!!

"I don't see any reason to continue without him," Lorre said. "He's a delight, he's a really nice man and he's a really easy-going guy, he's very relaxed and very professional. He shows up and he's ready to work, he's prepared and he brings it." In other words, the anti-Sheen. Of course, they have to keep him. Introducing yet another main character would be a disaster.

You can tell the writers and producers changed..Alan should be the lead, and they could just leave Ashton out in season 10. NO one would miss Ashton Kutcher. They should bring in someone else to play the lead....lots of unemployed men actors in Los Angeles.....Jon Cyer should make the most money, and get the CBS trailor that's on the W/B wish: bye, bye AK.....that would be winning for season 10...They would get their longtime viewers back by getting rid of the talentless AK...

The last season was certainly NOT WORSE than the garbage we have NOW and Sue Ann if you like so much the show right now, what about talking about that and not Charlie Sheen ?! Move on, you seem obsessed, it is creepy and pathetic.

Sue ann

I saw it occasionally in syndication when Charlie Sheen was on, if I was too lazy to change the channel. Now I make a point of watching the show. I am sad about the deterioration of the character of Alan, and I would also appreciate seeing the supporting characters (pizza guy, etc.) more, but I far prefer Ashton Kutcher and his character. I cannot be the only one; the ratings have been very good indeed this season. If Charlie Sheen was still there, I would not be watching. His sideshow has overwhelmed his small talent.
