17 Wonderful Women in Charge

at .  Updated at .

These ladies aren't afraid to show everyone who's boss.

From the incredible mentors and the fun-loving women we wish we could work for, to the powerful ones we wouldn't want to cross, here are 17 of the most awesome female bosses on TV.

1. Diana Trout (Younger)

Diana Trout, played by Miriam Shor, is the one who gives Liza her new job at Empirical press. She's the one who gives Liza a chance and offers her a job. Though she's actually sort of terrible to work for, we've slowly started to see her softer side.

2. Diane Lockhart (The Good Wife)

Played by Christine Baranski, Diane Lockhart on The Good Wife is one of the most powerful female characters on television. She's tough but compassionate, and isn't afraid to say it like it is.

3. Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

The fast talking, passionate Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) started as a maid at the Independence Inn, worked her way up to management, then eventually became the owner of the Dragonfly with Sookie. And hey, there's good news, because we haven't seen the last of Lorelai or The Dragonfly, since a Gilmore Girls revival is coming to Netflix!

4. Jessica Pearson (Suits)

The bottom line? Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) on Suits gets things done, and she does it with grace. She's fiercly loyal, intelligent, and reliable. Just whatever you do, don't get on her bad side.

5. Camille Saroyan (Bones)

Camille Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) is the kind of boss we'd all like to be able to work for. She looks out for her people, bends the rules when she has to (maybe too often) and she isn't afraid to get her hands... um... dirty.

6. Claire Dunphy (Modern Family)

Claire (Julie Bowen) on Modern Family may be still finding her footing as the boss at Pritchett's closets, but hey, she's trying. Don't ever underestimate Claire Dunphy.

7. Cookie Lyon (Empire)

Is there anyone tougher than Empire's Cookie Lyon? No, we didn't think so either. Played by Taraji P Henson, Cookie is an intelligent, outspoken, and she's nothing if not a force to be reckoned with.

8. Kate Beckett (Castle)

After years of hard work, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) finally worked her way up and become a detective at the 12th Precinct. No one deserved the job more than her, and she's already proving to be great at it.

9. Peggy Olson (Mad Men)

Peggy started out as Don's soft-spoken secretary on Mad Men, but she worked her way up to become fierce and successful in the advertising industry, gaining some important leadership skills along the way.

10. Leslie Knope (Parks and Recreation)

There's really no one like Leslie Knope! Played by Amy Poehler, Leslie is incredibly dedicated, smart, and passionate about her work -- and her friends. Working for her would be a dream come true, and she might even buy you a plate of waffles.

11. Miranda Bailey (Grey's Anatomy)

I mean really, who's a better mentor and boss than Chandra Wilson's Miranda Bailey? In early seasons of Grey's Anatomy, she was known as the Nazi, but it didn't take long to see her softer side. Now, she's chief of surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

12. Monica Geller (Friends)

Talk about perseverance. Monica worked her way up to get her position as head chef, and then she still had to work to gain the respect of her employees. Eventually, she did, and with good reason! No one deserved it more than her.

13. Liz Lemon (30 Rock)

Liz Lemon was never afraid to say what was on her mind. In fact, she really wasn't afraid of anything, even though she didn't always have support from her employees. Let's face it, Liz Lemon had to put up with a lot.

14. Olivia Pope (Scandal)

Scandal's Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is the kind of person you always want on your side. For real. She's clever, fearless, and does what she has to do to lookout for her team of gladiators.

15. Annalise Keating (How to Get Away With Murder)

Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) on How to Get Away With Murder doesn't back down, and she'll do anything to take care of her people. And I mean anything.

16. Jessica Day (New Girl)

After all she's gone though, Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) is Vice Principle now, and she's probably the quirkiest Vice Principle any school has ever seen. Who wouldn't want to work for Jess?

17. Quinn King (UnREAL)

Played by Constance ZImmer, Quinn King isn't exactly the kind of boss we'd like to work for, but you can't deny how awesome and powerful she is. And for better or worse, she's also a mentor to Rachel.
