Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Los Enamorados

Teresa Mendoza proved once again how strong she was, and then she got her heart crushed on Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6

Apparently, Pecas was determined to get Teresa out of his territory no matter what it took, and if Devin Finch didn't get the job done, he was happy enough to turn her over to Boaz.

Teresa Is Captured - Queen of the South

Of course, Boaz didn't really give a damn about Teresa. He was hoping to use her as a bargaining chip in the hopes that Camila would rescind her order for his death, but things didn't work out that way.

Not that any of that mattered to Teresa at the moment. She was locked in a cage, with Guero next to her.

As usual, Teresa kept her cool, even when Camila held her in what looked like a dirty dog kennel, threatened her life, and cut up the man she loved in front of her.

Teresa didn't cry or beg, but she did have a plan. Her hacker had access to Camila's Cayman Islands accounts. I'm curious to see if Teresa goes ahead with outing Camila to all of Sinaloa now that she's escaped.

I've never been a huge fan of Guero, but the man spent eight months being tortured by Cortez to protect Teresa. That even earned him the respect of James and Pote.

The flashbacks were an important reminder of who Teresa was before all of this started. She was Guero's girlfriend who smiled and laughed and wore cheap, short denim skirts.

I can't imagine Teresa wearing that outfit now. It would make it too difficult to beat the heck out of someone who was trying to kill her.

Guero Is Alive - Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6

Hearing Guero was with Teresa had to hurt, but James didn't let it show ... much. His first goal was to find Teresa and get her back.

It was a relief to see that Pote's hand was back in working order. Hopefully, that's an issue that won't come back to haunt him.

Camila had her own set of flashbacks as she remembered the arguments she'd had with Epifanio.

Was he right? Will her rage and desire for revenge be what destroys her? One can only hope.

Camila knew that Isabela wasn't ready to come face to face with Teresa, but it was no surprise that ordering the girl not to confront the woman who killed her father was going to backfire.

Isabela expects to be treated as an equal, but Camila was quick to put her back in her place after she not only disobeyed her but also allowed Teresa and Guero to escape.

Camila: You disrespected me. There will be serious consequences.
Isabel: This wasn't about you. I did it for me.
Camila: Really. You are forbidden from seeing Kique.
Isabela: That's crazy. We're getting married.
Camila: Not anymore. The wedding's off. Until you learn how to make better decisions, I'm making them for you. I'm doing what's best for you. You'll thank me one day.
Isabela: No! You just want me to spend the rest of my life by your side being as miserable and alone as you are.

Calling off Isabela's wedding to Kique Jimenez will have its consequences.

At her core, Isabela is a girl who is used to getting what she wants, and she won't take this well. Remember how she used her abduction to manipulate her parents?

The girl is just as manipulative and vengeful as her mother. It won't surprise me if she is Camila's eventual downfall.

Holding Guero - Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6

I never thought Cortez felt any particular loyalty to Camila. He seems to follow whoever is in power, or whomever he feels he can manipulate to use their power to his advantage.

Whether it's respect or lust, Cortez appears to be falling for the Governor.

Cortez: I promise you I will not relent until I lay Teresa at your feet like hunted prey.
Camila: I have no doubt you'll bring her to me. You are my most loyal soldier.
Cortez: It's rare when a man can find a woman worthy of his complete loyalty.

Whether or not Camila feels the same is a different question. I think she's just taking Epifanio's advice and using her wiles to bend Cortez to her will.

I'm not sure that Camila feels any real loyalty to anyone but herself.

Camila Tortures Guero - Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6

Back to Guero and Teresa's escape.

That doctor took one hell of a chance protecting them, especially with his wife and baby in the house. I don't know how far they'll have to run to be safe from General Cortez.

The drop of blood falling through the cracks in the floorboards and onto Cortez's face was a nice, dramatic touch, but James and Pote showing up in the nick of time was a little too coincidental.

It was good to hear James and Pote jump on board bringing Guero back to Phoenix, but it was Pote's Queen of the South quote that made my night.

Pote: There's a Taco Bell. Anybody need a chalupa?
James: No.
Pote: What about one of those tall slushies? It's like a bump of coke, mano, it will keep you awake all the way to Phoenix.
James: I'm good, but thanks.

Now I'm craving a chalupa and a slushie.

I never thought I'd mourn Guero's death, but I am for two reasons.

First, because Teresa is devastated by it. He was her first and only love and finding him again only to lose him will change her. I just hope she doesn't fixate on revenge the way Camila has.

Second, I've always assumed that the man Teresa shoots in the Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 1 flash forward was Guero, and now I know that's not the case.

Now I fear that man is James, but I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 6 Quotes

Camila: I picked you up when this rat left you for dead. I housed you. I protected you.
Teresa: No. You sent James to kill me.
Camila: I hear he works for you now. He followed his dick right back to you and now you share a house and a bed but he couldn't protect you from me so here we are. You see eventually we all have to pay for our sins.

[to Epifanio] You can be as generous as you want with your dick, just not with my money.
