Very true. Although from Damon's face this scene looks kind of like the one where she says "Screw this i'm going to be sacrificed."
You know what would have been a good twist? If she didn't tell the boys that she would be spared with Elijah's help. So she goes down there and they think she's been killed. And Damon in his anger takes the dagger and stabs Klaus. Obviously it doesn't work but it kills Damon. Elena's reaction is epic and suspiciously romantic and Elijah tells them theres a way to get him back.

We're all forgetting the possibility that this could not be Elena but infact Kathrine.
I'm certain that we havnt seen the last of her yet.
Damon: She's strong and crafty and you'll die. Elena: At least I'll die trying.
