Sheldon: Why do you have the Chinese character for "soup" tattooed on your right buttock?
Penny: It's not "soup," it's "courage."
Sheldon: No it isn't. But I suppose it does take courage to demonstrate that kind of commitment to soup.
Penny: How'd you see it? You said you wouldn't look.
Sheldon: Sorry. As I told you, the hero always peeks.

Sheldon can read Mandarin but it's his pronunciation that sucks. Not to mention Howard had helped him to learn to speak it and his Mandarin sucks even worse.

Keep in mind that Sheldon's grasp of the Chinese language is suspect. Remember when he went into the Chinese restaurant to complain about the food. "Oxen are in my bed! Many, many oxen!"

You gotta get this, it's a joke - there was that fad with chinese symbols a while back, she went in, ordered "Courage", but the tattooartist drew "Soup" on her...

Hmmmmm, I don't see the connection or the similarity.
Courage: 勇氣
Soup: 湯
But hey, what do I know? Besides, Sheldon studied a lot more Chinese than I did!

What does the chinese character soup and courage look like?
I think I found courage and I can see why it might look like soup as it looks like a bowl of hot, steamy, soup on a table stand but what does the character of soup look like.
