Desperate Housewives to Flash Forward

On December 6, a plane will crash onto Wisteria Lane and take the life of... someone. (You don't wanna know every detail ahead of time, do you?)

Desperate Housewives will then go on hiatus until 2010, picking up with an episode that models itself after another ABC series: FlashForward.

In early January, the show will depict an alternate future reality, as the housewives ponder various “What If” scenarios.

"We’re doing something we’ve never done before,” creator Marc Cherry told TV Guide Magazine. “It’s our ‘What If’ episode, where we’ll show five scenarios with our Housewives contemplating their lives based on the accident. Those who lost someone imagine what their lives would have been like if their loved ones had lived. Some people imagine what if they hadn’t married the people they married.”

Bree and Susan

We can't reveal too much about the unique episode now, but we can confirm that Celia and MJ will play key role on it. Desperate Housewives is casting for actors to play older versions of these characters.

“Some of this will be very funny for some characters," said Cherry, "and heartbreaking for others.”

Desperate Housewives Questions, Answers, Spoilers Galore!

A few weeks into the season, critics and fans agree that Desperate Housewives is back in full force.

But will that remain the case? Producer Bob Daily spoke to TV Guide Magazine and answered a series of reader questions this week. He and other cast/crew members offered a preview of upcoming storylines. To wit:

On Tom and Lynette's son, Parker: "Honestly, we were feeling there were too many characters on the show. But I think he’ll (eventually) be coming back," Daily said.

Kathy Najimy on Desperate Housewives

On the identity of Julie's attacker: Viewers won't discover this until the end of the season. Said Andrea Bowen (Julie): "Even the person who did it doesn’t even know. Marc Cherry made an announcement after he screened the first episode at his house. He said, ‘The greatest thing about this year’s mystery is the person who did it is in this room and has no idea,' so he’s keeping it under lock and key."

On Karen McCluskey: She'll return during the Christmas party; while portrayer Kathyrn Joosten is pushing to use her real-life cancer scare on the show. Said Daily:

“Kathryn is very keen on us doing a lung cancer story. She’s very active in lung cancer charities so is pushing for this, and we’re seeing if we can find a way to do it.”

A new episode of the show airs on Sunday. As always, we'll update our Desperate Housewives quotes section soon after it concludes.

Sneak Peek at Kathy Najimy on Desperate Housewives

Lyndsy Fonseca: Returning to Desperate Housewives

After losing Mike to Susan, Katherine Mayfair has been losing it little by little on Desperate Housewives.

Perhaps Dana Delaney's character could use some daughterly love. Enter Lyndsy Fonseca. TV Guide Magazine reports the actress will return later this season as Katherine's child, Dylan.

Lyndsy Fonseca as Dylan

The character has been absent since 2008, prior to the show's five-year time jump. Internet rumors state that Katherine might enter a mental hospital in the near future, which would leave the door open for family to visit.

Fonseca has also enjoyed extended runs on How I Met Your Mother and Big Love.

Dan Castellaneta to Crash into Wisteria Lane

On December 6, the women of Desperate Housewives will attend a Christmas party.

As previously reported, however, the shindig will be interrupted by a minor incident: a plane crashes down on Wisteria Lane.

We've now learned that Dan Castellaneta will portray the unlucky pilot behind the controls of this vehicle, which is rumored to take the lives of at least one major character.

Dan Castellaneta

Castellaneta has appeared on episodes of Greek and Castle.

But he's most responsible for thousands of incredible Homer Simpson quotes, as he voices the bumbling patriarch of TV's funniest family.

Look out, residents of Wisteria Lane. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...

... no, wait, it actually is a plane!

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has revealed a major storyline that will leave viewers on the edges of their seats this winter: there will be a neighborhood plane crash.

“It’s going to be my cliffhanger for the first half of the season,” he said of the tragedy, whch will “affect everyone’s lives.”

Cherry did confirm to Entertainment Weekly that no one "major" from the cast will die as a result of the accident.

Cherry also explained the role Kathy Najimy would take on in more depth.

"Susan suspects Katherine was the one who attacked Julie, so she gets [a cop] to help her," he said. "But then she finds out the policewoman (Najimy) went to high school with her - and Susan stole her boyfriend, too!"

Due to this history, Najimy's character has been resenting Susan for decades. Sounds juicy!
