The Following Review: Tying Up Loose Ends

at .  Updated at .

That was an awful lot to digest, wasn't it?

I feel like I need a moment to process all that just happened on The Following Season 3 Episode 12 and The Following Season 3 Episode 13

With only one more week until the two hour series finale, some loose ends were tied up while we must hope the rest are wrapped up, as well. I am going to be pretty upset if this series ends on a cliffhanger!

The ending to the Tom story was pretty anticlimactic, wasn't it? I don't know about you guys, but I was expecting a bigger payout. Max finally finds out the truth about him and he's dead before she can even confront him? She may never even know that those cameras were ever there.

Mike made a good point when he suggested that they turn the tides on Mark. Did Tom honestly think he was going to get out of that alive? He just kept digging himself in deeper and deeper. If he had just come clean at any point during all of this, things could have gone so much differently for him.

Who's dumber, Tom or Penny? It was so obvious she was going to go back for Ryan and get herself killed in the process. She should have listened to her much smarter older brother.

Ryan has gone so far off the deep end that he's not even in the water anymore. I think this quote about sums it up:

Max: Is that Theo's sister?
Ryan: Yes.
Max: You kidnapped her?
Ryan: Max-
Max: Have you been torturing her? Have you lost your mind?

Yes Max, clearly Ryan has lost his mind. She's ready to call it in, and I couldn't blame her, but Ryan convinced her that doing so would get Mike killed. At least Max got a punch in! That was awesome and Ryan seriously had that coming.

Was anyone else wondering why Lisa didn't take the bottle from Ryan when she found it in his backpack? He admitted to falling off the wagon and she just gave it back to him? That didn't make sense.

Gwen finally told Ryan about the baby! The news sent him directly to a meeting. Does that mean a happy ending between them is possible? I hope so. Ryan has been through so much and I would like to see things work out for him.

But what about our other central couple? Mike and Max seemed to be on their way to a blissful reunion, but anyone who's ever watched TV knows that whenever two people are about to be happy, something catastrophic is about to happen.

Thank you Mike for saying what we've all been thinking all season:

Max: So turns out Tom was quite the creep.
Mike: Yeah, clearly you have lousy taste in men.

Will Mike survive?

I mentioned way back in my review of The Following Season 3 Episode 1 that I could see Mike dying by the end of the season. If the promo hadn't shown Mike lying in a hospital bed, I might have believed I was right. Now though, I'm guessing he'll live.

At least Mark is dead, and by Mike's hand, so that's another loose end tied up. Theo and Daisy are still out there, and I'm looking forward to a final showdown between Theo and Ryan.

So how will this all go down in the finale? Will the good guys make it out alive? Will Theo end up dead? His deal with Eliza is sure to play a part in his plan to take out Ryan. Let me know your predictions in the comments and feel free to commiserate on the show's cancelation. I know I'm disappointed to see it end.

The Following Season 3 Episode 12 Quotes

Do you really think you'd be able to live with yourself if Max or Gwen got killed because you were half in the bag?

Mike

The deal is what I say it is. Think of it as a team building exercise. If my instincts are correct, you might even get to kill some people.
