American Gods Gets Series Order at Starz

at .

Neil Gaiman's American Gods is getting the Starz treatment.

After years waiting in development, a straight-to-series order of the Nebula Award winning fantasy novel was announced. Brian Fuller (Hannibal), will be one of the series co-showrunners, along with Michael Green.

The novel follows the story of an ex-convict named Shadow who meets up with a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday, who just so happens to be a God, an old God (Odin, to be precise). There is a war coming against the old gods and the new (representing things such as modern technology) and the two will be at the head of it.

"With our partners at FremantleMedia and with Bryan, Michael and Neil guiding the project, we hope to create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans, who have been casting it in their minds for years,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said. “The search for Shadow begins today!"

"I am thrilled, ‎scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation,” Gaiman said. “The team that is going to bring the world of American Gods to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I’m relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands. Now we finally move to the exciting business that fans have been doing for the last dozen years: casting our Shadow, our Wednesday, our Laura…"

Were you a fan of the book? If not, you have plenty of time to get behind it and find out what it's all about. (Hint...it's engrossing!!) With what Starz has been able to do with Outlander and what Brian Fuller has done with Hannibal, it seems American Gods is in good hands.

Shadow, we're going to be releasin' you later this afternoon. You'll be gettin' out a coupla days early. There's no good way to say this, so I'll put it plain. This came in from Johnson City Hospital from Eagle point. Your wife, she died in the early hours of this morning. It was ah, an automobile accident.
