Arrow Meets The Flash: What Will Be the Crossover Fallout?

Is your head spinning in the wake of the latest crossover between The Flash and Arrow?

With both shows airing another new episode before the calendar flips, and with DC's Legends of Tomorrow on tap for January, The CW has given viewers A LOT to look forward to.

It should be because so much went down in both hours but the good news is now we have the upcoming episodes of both shows as well as the Legends of Tomorrow spin-off to look forward to.

After a double screening for the press of both crossover installments, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Wendy Mericle and Geoff Johns (along with cast members Teddy Sears and Falk Hentschel) talked about some of the creative choices made, as well as what is coming next.

1. Olicity in Danger

Given we saw how much Felicity hates secrets before everything was reversed by Barry's time traveling, Oliver decided not to tell Felicity about his son. That can't be good, right? "It's definitely going to come to a head in the middle of the season," Mericle promised. "True to what we've done on the show, if there's a secret somewhere, it's going to come out and it's going to have some serious consequences. We're really excited about how that's going to change things and it's really gonna raise the stakes and throw some wrenches into their relationship."

2. Barry + Patty

We’ll see Barry conflicted over his blossoming relationship with the lovely Miss Spivot. On the one hand, he has Iris reminding him he has to do things differently than he did last year if he wants to be with Patty. On the other hand, Kreisberg said, Barry has "Wells ironically telling him, 'if you really care about this person, you keep her as far away from all of this as possible, because if Zoom finds out, he’ll kill her.' So Barry is really wrestling with those two things moving forward.

3. Surprise, Dad!

Surprised Ollie's son wasn’t Connor, as many thought it would be? Kreisberg explained: "I think when we came up with the whole idea of it, part of it was we didn’t want to be tied in necessarily to a character like Connor not being able to be part of the show if we made him so young."

4. Velocity Serums

We saw that taking Velocity 6 helped Jay save Wells' life, but he also asked that Barry never be given it. Will that come back around? "If you're a fan of the comics," Kreisberg said, "you know that a big part of the comics is Velocity-9. And today you guys met Velocity-6 so it's safe to say that there'll be a few more iterations of that formula.” Sears also stated about the future for the two rivals: "There is a growing understanding, respect [and] these two will begin to work side-by-side, as members of Team STAR Labs, going forward and fighting metahumans. They're not going to be buddies or great friends, but something does happen for the good after that."

5. Meeting (Some) Legends

Of all the members of Legends, why did we only see Hawkman and Hawkgirl? Berlanti shared, "the studio and the network were asking us from the very beginning of the year, which characters from Legends are going to be in the two-hour and were encouraging us. We wanted to have some, a couple, but not all in it, so it also felt right that we would use the characters that we hadn’t introduced on the individual series yet, with the exception of Rip Hunter, who we saved for the pilot of Legends."

6. Cisco's Heartbreak

Since Kendra is heading off to Legends with Carter, it's safe to say that Cisco might feel the pain of losing her in the coming episodes. But he’ll have plenty to keep him busy, as Kreisberg teased: "The two interesting things that are happening for Cisco is, one, a further exploration of his abilities as Vibe and what he can do and what he's capable of. The other thing, which you got a little bit of a glimpse of in episode 7, is his relationship with new Wells."

7. Why Not Use Time Travel To Fix Everything?

While Barry's abilities has helped more than once, don't expect it to be the go-to solution much longer. "Legends will explain basically why time travel can't be used in a deus ex machina kind of way, not just with respect to death, but with respect to any plot contrivance,”"Guggenheim said. "It's like, 'Why can't we just go back to Episode X and do that episode differently?' We're going to answer that question very definitively. It'll be part of the rules of time travel that are a part of Legends."

8. The Return of Vandal Savage

Hopefully you watched until the very end of Arrow to see Malcolm take Savage's ashes. When will that the villain come back into the picture…and on which show? The producers didn't offer up much but Berlanti did say: "As of right now, we’ve almost always saved it for Legends. But we're not done with the seasons on [Flash and Arrow] yet so I don’t want to say we wouldn’t come up with some kind of way to reference it."
