Who else thought The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 12 was going to be a snoozer?

From the outset, it felt like the focus would be about setting things up for a big attack, and that’s all it would be.

A few one-on-one conversations between various survivors to get a quick look at how they feel about the big attack would be mixed throughout, and the hour would end with someone like Rick making an emphatic declaration about taking down the Saviors.

I'm glad I was wrong.

It’s not that I dislike the slower episodes by any means. In fact, The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 11 was not some action-packed shootout, and that was perfectly OK, because there was an advancement of story while we got to learn more about some of the newer characters like Jesus and Gregory.

I was just worried that “Not Tomorrow Yet” would have us just preparing for the “tomorrow” and never go anywhere.

But there was another major shift in how Rick and company play the survival game, turning defense into offense. They aren’t going to wait around to get attacked, they will attack first and attack quickly.

And wow was the shootout that took place over the latter half of the hour a bloodbath. Once again, there was a certain efficiency to Rick and his team moving through that Savior base.

There also was something rather unsettling in seeing the team members go around killing the random characters in the base. How do they know that all of those guys are just bad guys?

I mean, there’s a certain obviousness to it after the attack on Gregory or Jesus’ description of Negan and his Saviors or Daryl, Abraham and Sasha’s run-in on The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 9. It’s a crew that doesn’t seem like a group of nice people, but rather than try and talk it out, like Morgan wanted to do, it was all shoot first and ask questions later.

The most affecting moment had to be Glenn’s first human kill. Both he and Heath had never killed a person before, and this attack would force them to, and not in self-defense.

Just seeing the emotion and pain on Glenn’s face as he sunk the knife in was heart-wrenching, and it really made you wish he could take all that back. It was also interesting that Heath hesitated, and Glenn managed to make the knife kill for him.

Like Jesus said, this really is a new world.

At the same time, it makes you think about the focus on Carol dealing with all the death she has caused. She’s certainly become a badass over the seasons, but all the killing seems to have taken a toll on her.

I think even some of Morgan’s conversation rubbed off on her.

It also seemed like a different Carol in the way she chided Rick for letting Maggie come along on the trip. I was glad to hear someone else finally talk about Maggie staying behind, even if it was something she wanted to do. And look how that ending turned out…

If anything it was a great way to close things out and have viewers excited for what’s next, even if it was pretty obvious Negan wasn’t amongst the dead.

But it does beg the question of how many Saviors there are and how many bases for the group there are. And do Carol and Maggie even have a hope of getting returned to Rick and the other survivors?

Is a trade or deal even possible after that slaughter? Should we be worried that Carol and Maggie aren’t going to make it to The Walking Dead Season 7?

The stakes have been raised, and I’m very curious to see the direction everything goes, especially with two major characters captured by presumably a huge big baddie.

It’s definitely going to put a damper on Carol’s relationship with Tobin. It’s too bad, too, considering getting flirty and having some companionship was a nice break for her from all the killing and walkers.

There was also some relationship drama with Abraham, Sasha and Rosita, but I just don’t really care about that love triangle. I do wish we’d get some more to Rosita’s character at least, and maybe the breakup will do that?

Either way, this was another episode that pushed the series forward, but rather than the hopeful outlook of The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 11, I’m seeing a dark ending on the horizon for The Walking Dead Season 6.
