iZombie Season Finale Review: Zombies, Zombies Everywhere!

at .

Wow. In all of my TV loving years, I have never seen a finale of that level. I am still in shock!

Was I watching iZombie or a clever, witty action movie? Or maybe I was playing a zombie video game?! It didn't feel like I was watching the same show. It was a heightened version of itself, which is exactly what you want from a finale.

This finale wasn't just TV viewing. It was a full on immersive zombie experience.

On iZombie Season 2 Episode 18, the pieces were carefully moved into place because you can't knock down the pins until you set them up, right? The biggest pin? Clive finding out about zombies!

For the past two seasons, he has stumbled onto hints but the straight laced cop never connected the dots. He actually didn't' this time either but a desperate Liv really had no choice and it was absolutely the right one.

With Clive in the know, everything just flowed. There weren't the jarring "case of the week" scenes where Liv had to jump out of her zombie life and into Clive's world. They were finally a team.

Clive: Major?
Random Waiter: Art History. That's why I'm doing this.

An unfortunate side effect of joining Liv's Team Z crew? Losing your FBI lady love when you get her case dropped to free a jailed zombie so he doesn't start a zombie apocalypse. I have a feeling we will see more of Bozzio in the future, or at least I hope so.

One of the brightest moments of the otherwise tense and stressful fading Major moments had to be the perfectly cast Ken Marino as the talkative, sleazy lawyer. He stole every scene he was in, whether that was the intention or not.

You're saying my client shot up a butcher shop and peed in the freezer?

Brant Stone

One thing that surprised me was the Janko murder. Even with Clive on their side and it being self-defense, nobody seemed too worried about the human that they just killed. They just start using him for parts. Ew.

Clive's willingness to help and work with the team surprised me in a refreshing way. Maybe all of that chatter about him being the black sheep of the police force started to get to him.

I don't think old Clive would throw out the rules so quickly, but it really worked this season. He may not have said it outright, but Clive knew something was off and he seems at ease knowing the truth. He had to step out of his comfort zone, and he thrived there.

Crashing the Rager - iZombie

Now moving on to the second half of that amazing finale. On iZombie Season 2 Episode 19, suddenly we were no longer watching iZombie. We were dropped into an almost video-game-like experience and with the ample levels of tension. We felt the urgency of the characters as they raced to save the freezer zombies.

Even the very first-person angle from Blaine's rescue of Peyton made it feel like I should be holding an X-Box controller yelling profanities, as one (me) often does when playing games of that stress level.

A massive zombie outbreak means never having to say you're sorry.

Also, Blaine and his memory still remains a bit of mystery to me. It seemed like he was his old self, didn't it? Why did he run when he saw Mr. Boss' men? How did he know where the weapons were?

Has this all been a great big con? I kind of hope so. I love Blaine too much for him to be gone.

Alright, now about that party. Max Rager's prison-themed party was amazing! The swat outfits, the locked gate and most importantly, the Rob Thomas cameo were spot on.

100 dead employees, 1 dead Rob Thomas. I mean, this just looks bad. Do you think Twitter is gonna be kind?

Vaughn Du Clark

It seems the entire season had been building to that party, and the payoff was executed perfectly! I saw it coming, but it didn't make it hurt any less when Liv had to kill Drake to save Clive. RIP Drake.

Major Lilywhite, the golden boy, the Chaos Killer and now the snarky, bad-ass zombie and zombie killer. Major dropping down from the elevator ceiling to kill a raving mad zombie-Rita was iconic. That's the Major we want to see!

What didn't we want to see? Rita eating her dead father's brains. Again, ew.

Notice how the Max Rager plot is eliminated so neatly? Rita, Vaughn and Janko are dead. That's one easy way to close out a storyline. They were crazy and responsible for the zombie outbreak at the party, but they are gone now.

Which leads me to the new "Zombie World Order" that was teased for iZombie Season 3. Clive, Major and Liv were not going to make it out but they were saved by the leader of this new group.

Clive: Oh, poor Rob Thomas.
Liv: This is how a skull breaks.

The last shot of the finale was her eating the brain of Rob Thomas and asking Liv to join them. iZombie Season 2 went out with a bang, wrapped it's storylines up and gave us some new intrigue for Season 3. You can't get any better than that!
