Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Last Call

at .

Wow, I did not expect that ending.

On Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 3, Ash met up with his old buddy Chet to create a plan to lure back the thieves who stole the Delta, and it was a yet another fun 30 minutes of television.

This was a much more laid back episode than Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 2. The use of archival footage from the Evil Dead film trilogy was put to brilliant use again with the opening montage. At least Ash had a photo of the Oldsmobile to remember it by. Those two have been through a lot together haven't they?

Pablo: Look at him. Man, that care has been with him through thick and thin, war and peace. I mean look at him.
Kelly: I mean, it didn't even have a CD player.
Pablo: True that.

It was obvious we wouldn't be seeing the last of the Delta, but it sure felt like a farewell to Ash.

Speaking of the Delta, what did everyone think of the Delta getting possessed? I thought that was a great move and loved the nod to Christine, another classic horror film.

The Delta made some sweet kills such as the tire burning the flesh off of Tyler's face. That was brutal to watch.

Planning a Party - Ash vs Evil Dead

Ruby taking charge and attempting to band everyone together to go after the book was terrific. It showed that she considers herself part of the team and has already acknowledged how they all need to work together on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 1.

Ash was quick to put his foot down, though, and reaffirmed Ruby that it is HIS team and that if anyone can find the book, it is Ash.

You're the one that grew up your entire life looking for that book and you never found it. Me on the other hand, can't fart without tripping over that thing, and I fart a lot!

Ash

How awesome was Ash's friend Chet? What a groovy cameo spot for Ted Raimi. I hope he has a recurring role because it was a treat watching these two interact with one another.

Of course, Campbell and Raimi's real life friendship and history really helped bolster their characters' relationship on the show.

I never thought Ash's idea to throw a party would lure the thieves back, but PARTY! It did bring in the attention of Deadite Amber, though.

Oh, and of course Brock showed up since he and his buddies have been going to that bar every Saturday. And his banter with his son has become so enjoyable.

Ash: What the rice and beans is he doing here?
Brock: What the rice and beans are you doing here?
Ash: Hey, it's my question!

Ash's investigative skills were put to good use with that awesome drinking game. Unsurprisingly, nobody else at that table had stolen a '73 Oldsmobile with a book bound in flesh.

Kelly's words to Pablo about stepping up and fighting his demons was on point and seemed to be a turning point for his character. I think we're going to start to see new Pablo going forward. This was evident when he gave similar inspiration to Ash when helping his father.

You are Ash Williams. Demon hunter, Deadite slayer, friend, hero...and Jefe.

Pablo

The bull riding competition between Ash and Brock was the highlight of the episode. They added salt into the wound of Brock easily showing up his son in the bull riding competition when he also wound up stealing Amber from him. Hey, he is the Six Million Dollar man, after all.

I wish the fight between Ash and Deadite Amber went on a little longer, but it was fun while it lasted.

Then there was that shocking ending. I was left speechless when Brock was run over by the the Delta. My mouth was left hanging open for a solid minute.

That was so unexpected and will likely have a huge impact on Ash, especially after he finally heard those words from his father that he has long yearned for. I am disappointed that Brock's time on the show was so limited. Now that he finally believed Ash, he could have been another great addition to the team.

This was another solid episode of Ash vs Evil Dead, and although we lost an outstanding character, it will for sure be the driving force for Ash going forward.

Other notes form the episode:

  • Kelly is dealing with some issues of herself after her uplifting words to Pablo.
  • Ruby wooing Kelly into joining her on her own side quest to stop her children. It will be interesting to see how this effects the dynamic of the group as a whole.
  • Could Ruby actually turn Kelly to her side? Ruby/Kelly vs Ash/Pablo could make for an interesting feud down the road.
