Destiny sure does know how to take the wheel.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 3 may go down as one of the best of the series, as characters become self aware and major life events change – well, everything really.

Someone might be pregnant, someone else IS pregnant, and we might be saying goodbye to someone we love. Who, what, and why, you ask? Well, let's get into it!

Paula, I'm pregnant!

First off, never place your trust in a menstruation app called, 'Ovunation.' That's a terrible name for a period tracker.

Driven by “destiny” Rebecca asks the universe to send her a sign that will end her love triangle once and for all.

I mean, I suppose she got the answer she was looking for.

Rebecca is an extremist, so naturally if her period is one day late she MUST be pregnant, right? It makes perfect – no. It makes no sense at all.

This is where Rebecca's intelligence is masked by her obsession with love. Her inability to think logically about her circumstance feels off, and yet, her rash decision to go out and get prenatal vitamins without even consulting an EPT test is perfectly Rebecca.

She does nothing halfway. The tiniest inkling that she may be pregnant immediately sends her into a baby frenzy. She's even got names picked out.

We're not a couple, Rebecca.

And then destiny intervened, not only bringing her good old Aunt Flow, but also leaving her single after Josh panics and breaks up with her. For real.

This is typical Josh.

Josh has seemed perfectly happy freeloading off of Rebecca and having her around to sex him up whenever he deems it necessary.

But he's also been looking for a way out, after weeks of denying that they are a couple and reminding her that he doesn't live there.

I think what bothers me the most about this interaction is how fast he is to say that THIS the sign he's been looking for.

Hello, Josh? Where were you when Rebecca confessed that she moved across the country and gave up her career to be happy in West Covina, where you just happen to live?

Josh can't seriously have not given any thought to that confession beyond that night. That's...well, that's crazy.

There's been an overwhelming amount of signs that Josh and Rebecca shouldn't be together. I guess because those signs couldn't potential poop all over his karate gi and keep him up all night crying, he didn't really consider those good enough reasons to give up period sex with a crazy girl.

Side Note: I really want to hear the full version of “Period Sex” – Rachel Bloom, if you're reading this by some chance, can we get that on the next cast recording album, or on the commentary?

Is the universe Team Josh or Team Greg?

Rebecca, naturally, assumes that because destiny isn't Team Josh that it must be Team Greg.

I mean, I can't blame her for assuming that. The math of love triangles is complicated stuff. I was awful at geometry.

I loved that Rebecca created a romantic comedy for herself and her suitors, and the way the she compared Greg to “the other guy” in the movie, you know, the one the girls is SUPPOSED to end up with.

I loved it because it's one of the most self-aware moments the show has ever had.

Rachel Bloom has long said that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend isn't about 'shipping, and yet most fans of the show, myself included, have declared themselves Team Greg solely based on the fact that it seems so obvious that he's perfect for her.

And we're all wrong. Greg isn't right for Rebecca.

You get back with Rebecca, you may as well hit the bottle again.

This episode playfully and painfully spells it out in every way that it possibly can.

Rebecca can't choose a man because he's her backup. Her therapist has made it clear that she's in no mental state to be in a relationship.

Greg's father says it quite plainly: they're toxic.

Not every 'ship on a show can be as perfect as Darryl and WhiJo. (Did that nickname just appear in this episode, or did I miss something?)

But then there are moments that just hit you in the feels, and you don't care about the reality of Rebecca and Greg's situation:

Rebecca: I used to think coincidences like this were signs.
Greg: Like when you were a little girl?
Rebecca: No, like an hour ago.
Greg: Ah, how you've grown!
Rebecca: Yeah, I was so much shorter back then.
Greg: Is that even possible?

Conversation between Rebecca and Greg flows so naturally. They're flirty and funny without feeling forced. Their chemistry is effortless. It's just a damn shame that they've gone too far to be just be friends.

Greg's commitment to his recovery must be really great, because his sudden and sharp decision to move across the country to finally enroll at Emory is the shock of the hour (well, almost the shock of the hour...more on that in a moment).

I admit it: during the airport scene, I don't think I've ever done an IMDB search fast enough to see how many episodes Santino Fontana would appear in this season. And I'm still not entirely convinced that I believe my search results.

THAT'S HOW GOOD THE WRITERS OF THIS SHOW ARE.

Because it makes perfect sense if Greg exits the story right here. Greg could walk away from Rebecca right now, clean break, and finally have a real chance at happiness and recovery.

But, if destiny is really following Greg's parallel path to Paula's, as I've been noting in recent weeks, then I think it's obvious that he's not going anywhere just yet.

Oh God, this makes so much sense. I mean, this is what happens to me. Right? I mean, I finally decide to apply to law school, and that bitch fate just knocks me up.

That's right, Paula has finally achieved her dreams. She's been accepted to law school. She had the congratulations party, and she's got the perfect Working Girl pumps.

And she's pregnant.

I can't decide how I feel about this twist in Paula's story. There's a part of me that loves it, that wants to see Auntie Rebecca sewing up “I <3 Josh” onesies for lil' baby Proctor, and having diapering mishaps.

But the much more analytical and serious part of me feels for Paula, especially after her speech about how she was going to spread her wings and fly, followed by the revelation that her father always told her that she was “a breeder, not a leader.”

This is undoubtedly the greatest performance Donna Lynne Champlin has ever given as Paula.

And it's only just begun, because now the tough stuff starts for Paula.

Will she decide to have the baby, or go the Jane the Virgin route, and seek out an abortion? Will this dark comedy tackle the reality of Paula's situation? If so, will it be played for drama or humor?

The choice to give Paula an unplanned pregnancy changes the game for the character, and for the entire show, really, because it's a ripple effect.

As her best friend, Rebecca will go through this experience beside Paula, and because Rebecca is so deeply connected to the rest of the ensemble, this story will trickle to all of them.

I can't wait to see how this development affects the future of West Covina as we know it.

“All Signs Point to Josh...Or Is It Josh's Friend?” feels like 2 separate episodes that take place in the same hour. The writers take viewers from Point A to Point B through stories that feel like a complete tornado.

Devastation and uncertainty abound by the hour's end, and I'm so jarred that I can't even recall how it all happened. It's fast storytelling, pushing characters to limits they normally don't reach in just 40 minutes or so.

And frankly, it's freaking impressive.

Even when Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is at its worst (and that doesn't happen often, but there's been some rough stuff along the way) I still feel confident in the way it will end because the writers are so smart and they know exactly what they're doing, even if the audience isn't quite there yet.

What I'm saying is essentially this: I think everything is going to be just fine. Let's put our trust in the people who are telling this story. They know how it ends. Let's all just agree to let them take us on the journey.

I have complete faith that it will continue to be an amazing ride.
