Syfy Renews The Expanse for Season 3 and 12 Monkeys for Fourth and Final Season

It's a great day for Syfy fans.

There were two renewals and in conjunction with one, a cancelation lies in the future.

The Expanse was renewed for a third season today and 12 Monkeys for a fourth. 12 Monkeys, though, will come to an end after that fourth season.

The Expanse Season 2 is currently airing on Syfy and has had an incredibly solid and well received season.

It's based upon the series of book written by James S.A. Corey and stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Frankie Adams.

“The Expanse is a gorgeous, thrilling, emotional series that has quite simply raised the bar for science fiction on television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

“We, along with the fans, are looking forward to continuing the journey with our partners at Alcon Television Group and the series’ brilliant cast and crew.”

As for 12 Monkeys, we finally have a premiere date for Season 3, and it's going to be an odd combination over linear television that will make it impossible to review here on TV Fanatic.

Beginning on Friday, May 19th four episodes of 12 Monkeys Season 3 will air beginning at 8/7c. The remaining episodes will air in batches on Saturday and Sunday nights.

So it's sort of a binge watch weekend for 12 Monkeys, in chunks. 12 Monkeys Season 4 will return the following year. Whether it will follow the same pattern of delivery is unknown. Production on that 10-episode season is already underway, however.

“12 Monkeys has a dedicated and enthusiastic fan-base thanks to the epic storytelling by Terry Matalas, and the stellar cast and crew,” says Jeff Wachtel, president and chief content officer for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer fans an opportunity to binge the third season as a reward for their lasting support, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where Terry takes us with the final chapter of this fabulous story in the fourth season.”

McCumber jumped in about the way the show would be aired, “With its time-twisting themes and edge-of-your-seat storyline, 12 Monkeys is the perfect show to air this way."

"It’s grown into a world well beyond the original film, and after seeing the creative strength of Season 3, we couldn’t wait to pick it up for a fourth season.”

Showrunner Terry Matalas promised EW that, "Each night will play out like a summer blockbuster."

I'm willing to give that a try.

What about you guys? Are you excited about the news of The Expanse renewal (of course you are)?

Where do you stand on what's to come on with 12 Monkeys? How do you think I should tackle reviews here on the site? It's over a weekend, so I may have room to play. Yes, I'm the 12 Monkeys fan of the year for this season.

Hit me up and let me know your thoughts on all things Syfy today!!

Catching up? You can watch The Expanse online and get a jumpstart when you watch 12 Monkeys online. Both series are brilliant!
