The Last Man on Earth returned from its winter hiatus with a dramatic and satisfying end to the Karl storyline.
On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 11, Tandy and Todd tell the gang what they discovered about Karl in the graveyard.
The gang refuses to believe them at first, but when Karl confesses to being a cannibal and escapes the prison once again, they decide they must kill him. Melissa also tells the group that she knows where Jasper is, which infuriates everyone.
I was happy to officially say goodbye to Karl by the end of the episode. I enjoyed Fred Armisen on the show, but his shtick was growing old quickly.
By killing him off when they did, we were allowed to enjoy his time on the show before he became too stale and annoying.

As predicted by many of you in the comments, Karl was killed by the bomb inside the Rubik's cube.
It is great to finally know that the bomb will not kill anyone from our beloved gang, but it was a bit predictable.
Uhhhh. He gone.
Tandy
This show often throws curve balls at the audience so I was a bit surprised that they went down the predictable route.
I would have at least enjoyed it more if the bomb had gone off just before the episode ended. It would have been a fun cliffhanger, and it could have had us wondering all week if anyone from our beloved gang was injured too.
As a musical theatre fan, I was delighted when Tandy announced that Karl's execution would be Hamilton themed.
I particularly enjoyed Tandy calling him Aaron Berg instead of Aaron Burr, and his response when Karl corrected him had me laughing out loud.
I love when they insert references like this into the show.
Tandy: Obviously, I’ll be Alexander Hamilton, and you’ll be Aaron Berg.
Karl: Burr.
Tandy: Need a sweater?
Karl: I'm fine.
It is a fantastic reminder that this show takes place in the near future. These people were enjoying the same things we are now when the virus killed their loved ones, which makes the wacky show and characters seem more real and relatable.
In my review for The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 10, I briefly discussed Tandy's character growth. His choosing to kill Karl for Carol was another sign that he has changed so much from the Tandy we originally knew.
Even though he made it clear that he enjoyed the praise he received from the gang for doing this, it was still a fairly selfless move on his part.
Carol: Thanks, Tandy.
Tandy: I’m not doing this for that, Carol, okay? I already got more than enough praise inside. I tried to cut it privately, but it ended up being a rather public affair. I had to borrow scissors and, you know, cried a little bit and such. But yeah, you’re welcome. This is going to be very hard for me.
Carol has always been a bit naive and innocent, and he was protecting her innocence and showing her how much he loved her. He has come a long way since the time he found her repulsive.
It is part of what makes this show such a delight. The characters are growing and changing as a result of their circumstances, but they are not losing what made us love them at the beginning of the series.
Tandy is still the same weird and impulsive guy he was, but he is also a loving father and husband now.
Speaking of Tandy being a father, where are the babies? Dawn, Bezequille, and Mike have been missing from the recent episodes.
I feared the writers would forget them when they were born, and I know there are only so many things they can do with infants. It would still be nice, however, to see them occasionally.
I would assume that with all the yelling that happens in that house, especially between Karl and the gang, they would cry for their parents.
I also find it hard to believe that Erica, Tandy, and Carol were so cool with leaving them alone in other rooms while a murderous cannibal was running around the house.
I am glad that Melissa told the group the truth about Jasper, even if she only did it out of necessity.
I cannot blame Jasper for being overwhelmed by the gang. They were horrible to him when they should have been treating him as one of their own children.
So, you thinking of coming back anytime soon? You know there’s no pressure on my end, but Todd misses you and I don’t think I can hold him off forever.
Melissa (to Jasper)
I loved Jasper's time with the group, though, and I hope he eventually rejoins them. I am glad they all know now, though, so that they can be look out for him and make sure that he is okay.
I do worry about the problems this will create for Melissa and Todd. I have always been vocal about how much I adore them together because they both genuinely seem to love one another. I hope this does not ruin the relationship they have built.
