2018 Emmy Awards: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, The Americans & More Winners!!
Carissa Pavlica at .The 70th Annual Emmy Awards began in terrible fashion with a less-than-stellar opening number and the realization hosts and Saturday Night Live news anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che would be best behind the scenes of a production of this magnitude.
The biggest surprise of the production came when the Emmy Award for Directing of a Variety Special was announced with Glenn Weiss as the winner for his work on The Oscars.
Weiss took his time to prove he knows drama when he upstaged all those before him giving the Emmys and NBC a much-needed boost when he made a poignant marriage proposal to his girlfriend in front of the world. Well done, Glenn, and congratulations!
There were other exciting and even historic moments during the show.
Amy Sherman-Palladino won two awards, one for Comedy Writing and the other for Comedy Directing, both for the Pilot episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which was a first for a pilot, and she was the first woman to win both in the 70-year history of the awards.
She was dressed as adorably as her quirky writing has always implied, and she gave a shout-out to her late father who inspired Maisel.
It took The Americans writers and EPs Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg all six seasons to get recognized by the Academy for their writing on show, but they finally got it for The Americans Season 6 Episode 10, the finale of the terrific FX series.
