The CW at TCA: Riverdale Spinoff, All American's Fate & More

at .

The CW boss, Mark Pedowitz fielded a lot of questions about various shows during the network's panel at the Television Critics Associaton winter press tour.

The network has already ordered a pilot for Katy Keene, the potential Riverdale spinoff, and while many fans thought that would mean some of the parent show's characters stopping by the New York-set series, it sounds complicated.

Big Debut - Riverdale Season 3 Episode 3

“Katy Keene takes places years after Riverdale high school. There are no plans to do anything (regarding a crossover). Any of the Riverdale characters who come to Katy Keene will be older,” Pedowitz said, adding:

“Robert (Aguirre-Sacasa) is getting the pilot right.”

This could mean we'll get to see more adult versions of some of the Riverdale characters, but it also could create some problems int he storytelling department.

The network describes the potential series as “The lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. This musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.”

Boxing Match - Riverdale Season 3 Episode 10

It does sound interesting, but it will have a competitive road ahead of it to land on the show's 2019-2020 TV season given.

The CW renewed ten dramas at the event, and All American was ominously missing from the list.

Despite soft ratings, it has garnered rave reviews from critics, and the network generally has a bias towards lower rated shows that get people talking.

“We are extremely proud of that show. We think the production quality is up there with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” he said during the event.

Former Teammates - All American Season 1 Episode 11

“It has nothing do with the show. We’re going to sit down in May and determine the wants and the needs are about that moment. It’s positive. It’s a show I’m proud to support.”

“We’re running full 16 episodes,” he said of the episode order.

“The series does debut on Netflix on March 31.

“We’re going to be curious to see how it does in out-of-season streaming at that point,” Pedowitz told reporters.

Envelope - All American Season 1 Episode 11

“That will help give us some more determination.”

Mark went on to chat about the Crisis on Infinity Earths Arrowverse crossover that was teased at the end of December's Elseworlds crossover.

“It will be the biggest and most complicated [crossover yet],” Pedowitz dished.

It will certainly be a difficult crossover to pull off when you consider the fact that some of the superheroes die in the comic book version of the battle.

I'll not go into specifics about what goes down, but it certainly begs the question about which of these shows could potentially be entering their final seasons.
