Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14 Review: Ties That Bind

All about the ladies!

Burgess and Upton finally had a chance to shine together on Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14.

We've always known that Burgess and Upton are two fierce females, but we didn't know just how fierce until this very moment.

Tied Up - Tall - Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14

They were able to survive a kidnapping because they put aside their differences and worked together like the boss babes that they are.

There's going to be a lot of negativity surrounding how Burgess found out about Ruzek and Upton, and frankly, it makes sense for the amount of #Burzek shippers out there.

Regardless of which team you ship, I have to say I love that Burgess' loyalty to Upton never wavered despite knowing she was the "other woman."

That attitude and mentality are what makes Burgess a ride-or-die team player.

When it came down to it, Burgess didn't care if Upton was dating her man. She fought for her, she fought with her, and she even checked up on her afterward.

Burgess: We're sitting here waiting to die. That's a bad strategy.
Upton: I agree.

She wouldn't even leave Upton's side when the only other option was death.

Burgess is the true MVP.

It's nice to see a series bring women together for a change rather than having them tear each other apart for loving the same guy.

Ride-or-Die - Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14

Burgess showed a level of maturity by accepting Upton and Ruzek's romance and being "cool with it."

She's the cool ex.

And why wouldn't she be? As Burgess pointed out, she and Ruzek have been over for a while.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't see #Burzek's reconciliation happening anytime soon either.

Admittedly, it was a little bit of a low blow to have Burgess find out about Ruzek and Upton's relationships by walking in on their flirty little moment.

For people who are trying to be lowkey about their romance, they really are not lowkey.

I enjoyed Upton and Burgess' heart-to-heart, but I didn't understand Upton's reasoning for keeping it from her.

That Upton didn't want to come clean about the romance because she once dated her Sgt., and people thought that was the only reason she got promoted was a lame excuse.

Kim, the goal is to stay alive as long as possible. And right now, the best way to do that is to sit and wait for help.

Upton

Why would Burgess, another woman who has faced those same fears and setbacks, ever think that about Upton?

Upton would have been better off just being honest and admitting that she didn't think her relationship with Ruzek would become so serious. She owed Burgess the truth.

But truthfully, it wasn't Upton's place to clue in Burgess.

Given Ruzek's personal history with Burgess, he should have been to one to tell her about this new relationship.

Especially because Upton and Burgess work so closely together, it was only a matter of time before Burgess found out.

Save Yourself - Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14

My heart hurt for Burgess when she saw Upton and Ruzek getting cozy, and then it sank when she saw Ruzek comforting Upton after the kidnapping.

It's not easy to see your ex with another woman no matter how strong you are, but I know Burgess will power on.

Here's the thing. The two officers who went to do the buy are missing. And when cops go missing, all the rules go out the window.

Voight

Burgess and Upton's kidnapping should have never happened in the first place because this unit is better than letting two women walk away with some dangerous thugs without back-up. However, I'm more upset that it happened solely to address the awkwardness between Burgess, Upton, and Ruzek.

Upton and Ruzek have been boiling under the surface, but we didn't need the women put in a life-threatening situation in to adress these relationships.

It's even more frustrating that Chicago PD wants to smooth things over by introducing a possible new love interest for Burgess with the addition of Charles Michael Davis.

Where's My Sister - Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14

Look, I'm not one to complain about delicious men in suits talking about the Joffrey Ballet, but the moment did feel a little misplaced.

It was almost like the writers wanted to assure us that after breaking Burgess physically and emotionally on Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14, she'd be okay because they had another hunk lined up for her.

And despite his good looks, Blair's relationship with Kelton is probably going to pose a bit of a problem for Burgess.

Lastly, I found it odd that Voight blamed personal relationships for what happened to Upton and Burgess.

Burgess: I thought the plan was to wait for the right moment.
Upton: I found the right moment, it just didn't go as planned.

Yes, there's a love triangle going on, but that just means all officers need to date outside of the unit. How many times am I going to say that?

I couldn't help but snicker when Halstead, Ruzek, Burgess, and Upton all exchanged dumbfounded looks. Yeah, you know who you are.

However, what happened to Burgess and Upton had nothing to do with their shared interest in Ruzek.

Ruzek wasn't on anyone's mind nor did their feelings for him cloud their judgment.

Personal Lives - Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 14

The only time the relationship factor came into play is when Voight benched Ruzek because of his personal feelings for both women, and again when Ruzek's feelings for both of the women almost botched the whole plan.

So really, Ruzek needs to learn how to keep his personal life private.

Even Halstead wasn't having any of Ruzek's bullshit.

I was naive to believe that Chicago PD wouldn't discredit all that Atwater went through on the powerful Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 13.

Chicago PD delivers strong standalone episodes but their follow-through sucks.

I hate the lack of continuity on this series.

Atwater took a background role in episode acting like nothing ever happened.

Is Atwater over a black man being racially profiled by cops? Is he off the hook for the death?

Look, what happened today, it cannot happen again. Okay, we don't take those kinds of risks. I mean, the object of this game, it's simple. We come home. Alive. There's never gonna be a case or a criminal that trumps that. Ever.

Voight

And digging deeper, what happened with the investigation into Ruzek's lie to cover for Antonio? Or even Halstead's mishap with the gangster who he was accused of killing?

Is the mayoral race even happening?

Overall, compared to Chicago PD Season 6 Episode 13, this one didn't hold up as well.

There was nothing at stake because we knew, ultimately, both women would survive.

At the very least, everything is out in the open and everyone can finally move on.
