Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Deconstructing Harry

at .  Updated at .

This season of Charmed is full of plot twists and surprises.

On Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 4, we were introduced to new powers, new characters, and new secrets!

The Charmed Ones are still powerless for the most part, but they're learning to solve their problems without their old powers.

Having a Breakthrough - Charmed (2018)

I was so excited to find out that Maggie developed a new power that allows her to see the future. It's not clear yet what sparked this new power.

There has been speculation as to whether Maggie would develop premonitions like her OG counterpart, Phoebe.

Maggie has always been disappointed that she doesn't have an active power like Macy and Mel.

Maggie's new power will likely come in handy and make her a more formidable opponent. Harry and Mel will likely rely on her new power to find Macy.

Mel took one for the team when she recklessly drank the potion that led the Charmed Ones to the queen of the Kyons.

What a Gryffindor thing to do!

Mel: I'm Sorry. It was stupid.
Maggie: But it was also incredibly brave.

Speaking of Harry Potter, did anyone else geek out when Maggie, Macy, Mel, and Abigael found a Basilisk amongst the powerful mythical creatures imprisoned by the Assassin?

I love it when my favorite worlds collide.

Abigael is surprisingly becoming one of my favorite characters, even after she tried to kill Macy, and then admitted to being half-demon.

Abigael in the Woods - Charmed (2018)

Abigael brings a fresh new edge to the show that has been missing since Jada was killed off last season.

Mel's aversion to Abigael is amusing. I wouldn't be surprised if Mel ended up dating Abigael instead of the mysterious woman from the witch shop.

She wouldn't have to hide the truth about who she really is from Abigael.

Suck this, Abby.

Mel

I was initially shocked to find out that Abigael is the daughter of Alastar, but it actually makes a lot of sense.

The Caine family is clearly a demon dynasty. I appreciated the feminist twist on Abigail's quest for power.

How can you be mad at another strong female who has set out to smash the patriarchy?

Abigael and the Charmed Ones will likely become friends after working together to destroy the Assassin.

Maggie and Jordan's relationship also took a turn this episode.

Up until this episode, it seemed like Jordan had a thing for Maggie. Their playful back-and-forth banter felt has felt incredibly flirty.

When Maggie had a vision of Jordan saying, "I love you,"  it looked like he was saying it to Maggie.

I love you. You saved my life.

Jordan

My heart broke a little bit when Jordan introduced Maggie to his girlfriend.

Although Maggie has been in denial about her feelings for Jordan all season, it's clear she has a thing for him.

Mel was right to point out the obvious chemistry between Maggie and Jordan. I still believe they will eventually end up together.

Can "Jaggs" be a thing, already?

Jordan will be so upset if he ever finds out that Maggie used a magic spell to get the job promotion he deserved.

Jordan seems like a guy with a strong moral compass.

He congratulated Maggie for getting the assistant manager job only because he believed she got it fair and square.

It's commendable that Jordan is working to put himself through law school.

The most exciting storyline this episode was Harry's. The initial interaction between Harry and Helen was my favorite scene.

I didn't know what to think when Harry went to visit Helen in the asylum.

Now that Helen has entered the picture, Harry is no longer the only whitelighter alive.

During his conversation with Helen, Harry mentioned that whitelighters were created at a great cost.

I hope we learn more about the origins of whitelighters and darklighters. I loved that the writers tied the first whitelighter to the Salem Witch Trials.

Helen had such a violent reaction to Harry when he brought up the Elders. There must be  painful history there.

It's not clear yet why Harry's darklighter is collecting a bunch of powerful supernatural creatures.

Although he has been deemed the "Assassin", it seems he's more interested in capturing creatures than killing them.

He's probably building an army of some sort.

It doesn't seem like dark Harry has any interest in killing Macy, either. If he really wanted her dead, then he would have killed her instead of kidnapping her.

I was so upset at Macy for taking so long to ask Harry what their secret code word was.

Macy may learn something about dark Harry that makes her take his side eventually.

Whatever dark Harry is up to, it seems like his plan has been in motion for quite some time.

It is also unclear whether Harry knew that the Assassin was his darklighter, or if he has memories of his darklighter. He quickly figured out that Helen had a darklighter.

It wasn't me. It was him. My darklighter.

Is anyone else curious why the writers decided the Charmed Ones should relocate to Seattle?

I was skeptical at the beginning of season 2 with so many new changes, but the writers have done an impressive job weaving the new story arc together.

I love that this season has also been less predictable than I expected. I find myself hanging on the edge of my seat at the end of every episode.

Having a Breakthrough - Charmed (2018)

I am also continually impressed with the writer's commitment to diversity and inclusion in the show's messaging.

Like I always, I want to hear from you!

Do you think Macy and Harry's darklighter will have a special connection?

Will Jordan and Maggie end up together?

Were you surprised by Abigael's true identity?
