Legacies Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Since When Do You Speak Japanese?

We're getting somewhere, Legacies Fanatics!

Legacies Season 2 Episode 4 featured the most bizarre Malivore villain yet in the Oni, but it helped move the plot along nicely.

Slowly but surely, people are starting to learn the truth about Hope, and it won't be long before Lizzie screams it from the rooftops to make everyone aware of it.

Defending Her Friends - Legacies

Lizzie had her differences with Hope on Legacies Season 1, but they became friends by the end. There's no way she's going to let Hope continue to be in pain.

Lizzie had quite the rollercoaster ride on this installment, but it was needed to set the wheels in motion as we delve deeper into Legacies Season 2.

A Date in the Bayou - Legacies Season 2 Episode 4

All Lizzie wants is to feel wanted, and MG's scheming for answers seemingly ruined her happiness.

MG is in love with Lizzie. There's no doubt about that, but a part of him is scared that Sebastien is only around to hurt her. That's why he went to extreme measures to prove that this supposed vampire could not be seen by anyone else bar Lizzie.

There's more to this tale than meets the eye, but MG recording over one of Kai's videos was a bit much. All of the hints are there for Kai's return, so it appears it is just a matter of time.

Josie's jealousy was at an all-time high thanks to everyone seemingly getting to know Hope. When Josie learns the truth about Hope's relationship with Landon, she's going to be livid.

Josie Fumes - Legacies Season 2 Episode 4

It will likely push her further into dark magic. There was some nice progression for Josie when she told Vardemus where to shove his dark magic training, but he managed to get back in her good books when he helped her get rid of the dark magic from the Oni.

I'm now more convinced than ever that Josie and Vardemus were the cloaked figures at the close of the episode.

Josie: You shouldn't be surprised. You gave me that black magic spell, and because of it, I broke that kid's arm. And mine's not doing so hot either.
Vardemus: What did your father have to say about this?
Josie: I haven't had the chance to ask him yet.
Vardemus: That's understandable. He was busy starting brawls.
Josie: I'm pretty sure that was your fault too.

Vardemus wants more power, and he's the only logical person to be carrying out these attacks in Mystic Falls.

The cloaked figure having an accomplice certainly makes it seem like Josie is the other one. But it remains to be seen what he really wants to do.

There's a Samurai at the Gate - Legacies Season 2 Episode 4

Vardemus is a horrible man, and getting Alaric slapped with the restraining order was horrible.

He wants Alaric well away from the school and his children. It's a real shame that Caroline has not arrived to put her foot down because surely she would trust Alaric's judgment on this demon headmaster.

It would be nice if we got a one-episode return for Caroline to sort out the mess at the school because it's hard to believe she's not taking much to do with it.

Alaric is struggling because the students at Mystic Falls High don't need him as much as the Salvatore School does. The only positive thing in his life right now is his burgeoning relationship with Sheriff Mac.

Mystic Falls Team-Up - Legacies Season 2 Episode 4

Her deep dive into his past was certainly sketchy, but she strikes me as a woman who has been unlucky in love in the past. She aims to find happiness before it's too late.

Alaric has a lot on his mind right about now, so that explains why he didn't meet her at the conclusion of the episode. Still, it would be nice for them to get together before the midseason break because their chemistry is off the charts.

Hope: It's a little dramatic, don't you think?
Alaric: Not as dramatic as the message Landon left me saying he had something urgent to discuss. Anything you wanna share?
Hope: Only that I'm pretty sure the monsters are after him this time.
Alaric: And you didn't think that that's something I should know?
Hope: More that I was afraid of what you were gonna say after that.
Alaric: Hope, you need to go back to the Salvatore School.
Hope: That was it.
Alaric: Not for your sake. For theirs. Maybe Landon isn't that important to you, but if Malivore wants him, you should go.
Hope: Okay, I'll take care of it, but from a distance.
Alaric: Okay, what am I missing here, Hope? Hmm. You told me the truth and everything worked out fine.
Hope: Not the whole truth. Landon and I, we were in love. Real love. Epic love, if that even exists.
Alaric: I can assure you it does.
Hope: Now he's with Josie, and they don't know what we were to each other. And I'm just afraid that if I tell them, she's gonna hate me forever. He's going to hate me or I'm going to hate myself because I made us all miserable, so I can't tell them. Not yet.

As for Hope, she's getting closer to everyone remembering who she is, but can we all agree that she has a heart of gold?

She could have been back together with Landon when he confronted her about seeing her face every time he dies, but Hope pushed him back towards Josie.

Hope Searches - Legacies Season 2 Episode 2

This teenager is sacrificing her happiness for the benefit of others, and it's painful to watch. Danielle Rose Russell plays a heartbroken teenager very well.

The good news is that Lizzie remembers her, so at least she will have one person on her side when the going gets tough again.

However, if Lizzie remembers then it shouldn't be much longer before everyone else starts to get their memories back.

Rafael is a bit of a wildcard right now. He doesn't feel like a series regular on Legacies Season 2 based on the trajectory of his story. It would be a shame to lose Peyton Alex Smith because he's another solid actor.

Looking for Hope - Legacies Season 2 Episode 2

But Rafael is not getting much to work with. It would be good to have an episode centered around him for a change.

"Since When Do You Speak Japanese?" was a solid installment that got us closer to unmasking the new villains. There was just the right amount of teen drama to keep things interesting.

Mac: Sorry to interrupt.
Hope: That's okay, I was just leaving. I will see you at the pep rally?
Alaric: See you there. I hope you consider the transfer. I can put in a good word for you at the Salvatore School.

The samurai was a solid character, and I wouldn't have minded him sticking around. But that's not how Malivore works.

What did you think of the monster of the week? Should Hope have sent Landon back to Josie? What will Lizzie do with the knowledge of Hope's past?
