Ruzek and Burgess wake up together, and they acknowledge that it feels different and better between them.

Ruzek gets a call on his undercover phone and  he talks about how he doesn't feel like he's making headway yet. He has to head into work and Mack calls him "dad" for the first time which utterly delights him.

Ruzek is pulling double duty hanging out with Samantha and trying to be at home. He finally gets the chance to prove himself to Beck, and he has to assist a man named Dale.

Ruzek finds out that he's watching Dale burn evidence from something he did that was horrible. There was a lot of blood on the clothes he burned.

Ruzek wants to bring Dale in because he knows he did something big and bad but Voight tells him to get evidence and find out about the crime first so he doesn't blow his cover.

Torres and Atwater take a car and investigate a lead. They find two bodies in a restaurant that look badly beaten and possibly stabbed. They know that Dale is likely responsible for it but they don't find DNA at the crime scene.

Hailey and Kim head to talk to a witness they find on the video footage to get information about what happened. He's terrified.

Ruzek goes to pick up Mack when Samantha ambushes him before he can go inside the restaurant and says that something is going on and she needs him immediately. She says that she followed him for a while when they first met and knew he sometimes ate there.

Sam tells Ruzek that they have to kill Dale. And if they don't, he'll kill them.

Ruzek calls Voight when Sam is in the house getting Dale and he calls Dante to record things so they can get to the location he'll be at.

Ruzek takes Dale down in the basement where Atwater and Torres jump him and tie him up and Ruzek pretends to shoot him. He gets Sam out of there as she has a breakdown.

Oceanwater try to arrest Dale but he puts up a fight, trying to beat up Torres and cuts his hand punching it through the glass. He's about to call them both slurs when he stops when Atwater calls him out and handcuffs him.

They can't get dale to flip on Beck. Ruzek figures out that there may be something at the mill that the Becks work at. Him and Kim investigate and they find the knife that was used to murder the Raes. While they're there Richard shows up with his grandson and let's him shoot guns.

Ruzek and Burgess show up at the hospital to talk to Dale and he has opened up his wound and bleeds out and dies.

Ruzek finally confronts Richard about the plan and demands to get let in on everything. He has a plan for something massive, lots of casualties. he puts Ruzek in charge and says that his time is coming.
