Jughead is reading a bunch of comics in his train car when he notices that Pep Comics stole his idea. He wants to sue them and complain to them personally.

Cheryl says over the PA system that Riverdale High is hosting a sock hop.

Archie asks Veronica to go to the sock hop together. She says maybe, but she'll need to test his dancing skills.

Cheryl gets overwhelmed when she thinks Toni is asking her to the sock hop. Toni wants Fangs' band to perform at the sock hop; Cheryl shuts down the idea as she wants Kevin's band to be the only band.

Jughead confronts Al Fieldstone, the editor of Pep Comics. The editor gives Jughead a chance to join the staff; he gives him the challenge to write a 700-page story. If the editor likes it, Jughead has a job.

Betty gives Archie some dancing lessons. Some sparks fly between them, but Alice breaks up the dancing and sends him home.

Jughead asks Ethel to draw something for his story. He says that he'll submit the drawings to Mr. Fieldstone too to see if he wants to offer a job.

Cheryl catches Midge in a car with Fangs. She takes her friend out. Meanwhile, Betty makes a move on Kevin, but he makes an excuse to get her to stop. The two get into an argument; Betty is upset that Kevin hasn't asked her to go steady or go further in their relationship.

Mr. Fieldstone hires Jughead at Pep Comics. Jughead successfully gets Ethel a chance to draw for the comics.

Kevin meets Clay Walker, a new student at Riverdale High. He overhears Clay playing the piano; Clay asks him who he should ask to the sock hop.

Archie makes his case to Veronica about why he should be her date. Veronica asks him to meet her at her house to talk and see if they have a good conversation. Betty asks Veronica for advice about boys; Veronica tells her to ask another boy to the dance instead.

Dilton Doily tells Cheryl that people are returning their sock hop tickets because the Southside Serpents are threatening to egg people if they go to the dance.

Mary Andrews helps Archie out with his jacket and dance outfit. Archie writes a poem and has Betty read it as a test; Betty likes the poem.

Cheryl visits The Dark Room to chat with Toni. Toni is adamant that Cheryl needs to hire Fangs' band for the sock hop.

Archie heads to Veronica's place to make his case, but she's also entertaining other prospective dates.

Betty confides in Alice that she's starting to feel something for Archie. Alice thinks it might be due to Kevin ignoring her.

Jughead is impressed by Ethel's drawings. Ethel asks Jughead to go to the sock hop; he agrees because he thinks they'll go as friends. Ethel's mother sends Jughead home.

Archie and Julian get into an argument at Veronica's place as they're talking about art. Archie leaves and doesn't give Veronica the poem.

Veronica visits Archie's house to apologize, but Mary chastises Veronica for her behavior and for playing with Archie's feelings.

Kevin has tea with Betty. Alice gives Kevin a pin for him to pin Betty; she says it will help quash any worries that Betty has.

Toni helps Cheryl sell tickets for the sock hop. It's revealed that Fangs' band will now perform at the sock hop.

Principal Featherhead gives Ethel a week's detention for drawing her horror comics in class.

Archie apologizes to Veronica for his behavior. Veronica agrees and tells him that she's going to the sock hop alone. Archie confronts her about the mind games; she said that she was playing games.

Veronica tells Betty that she's going solo. Betty is confused to hear that Veronica didn't choose any boy and that Archie didn't give her the poem.

Before Betty could ask Archie out, Kevin interrupts her and apologizes to her. He asks her to go steady, wants to pin her, and says she loves her. Betty agrees to go to the sock hop with him.

Featherhead and the doctor are worried about Ethel; they want to talk to Ethel's parents. Mr. Fieldstone hires Ethel at Pep Comics because he loves her drawings.

Ethel's parents confront Ethel about her recent behavior. Ethel lashes out at her parents for their bad behavior, like her dad's working habits and anger or her mother's drinking. Ethel says she's going to the sock hop and leaves.

Clay asks Kevin for a private singing performance in the future. He agrees but goes to give Betty her drinks.

Fangs' band performs "Tutti Fruitti" and the dance erupts. Cheryl and Toni dance together at the dance; one of the teachers is staring at them.

Fangs performs a slow song. Veronica apologizes to Archie and asks him to dance; he politely declines and goes dancing with his mother. Veronica agrees to dance with Julian.

Clay is watching Kevin dance with Betty. Cheryl is staring at Toni.

Ethel bursts into the sock hop covered in blood. She's crying and said something terrible happened.
