Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Wrath of Con"

The Gossip Girl Insider staff assembles each Tuesday to analyze the burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from the previous evening's episode.

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!

This week's hot Gossip Girl topics from "The Wrath of Con" include memorable lines, stretches of the imagination, and opinions on the caper, the spinoff, and Chair ...

Sound off below or in our ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Georgina's episode-ending proclaimation to Blair: "You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back." Wow. We can't wait to see what the bitch does next week!

Gossip Guy: I loved that the old Blair was back in this episode. I loved when she summed up Georgina's new life: "that is a Carrie Underwood song, not a life choice!"

Mister Meester: This early exchange: Georgina: "The Lord cannot enter the body solely by alcohol." Chuck: That's good, because I prefer to be the one doing the entering." Georgina: "To each his own holy water." These two are great.

2. How are you liking the Gabriel-Poppy financial caper story line?

DANdy: It was getting a little old, that is until Poppy escaping amid Serena's arrest offered a new twist. Now Georgina's on the case while Nate, Blair, and Chuck are joining forces to take Poppy and Gabriel down? I love it!

Mister Meester: Once you get past the absurdity - serious timeline plot holes, Lily sending Rufus dividends the very next day, that moron Poppy pulling off such a scheme in general - I do find it pretty compelling. Just gloss over some of the financial details and appreciate the characters ... it brought us back Georgina, right?

Gossip Guy: Let's leave the crime capers to professionals like Danny Ocean. Did we really need to drag this on for two whole episodes, and what it looks like a third?

3. More puzzling decision: Chuck letting go of Blair because he loves her, or Lily having Serena arrested to avoid drawing attention to the scheme?

Mister Meester: Lily. Because if eating a few hundred grand to avoid her reputation being damaged weren't silly enough, she has her own daughter arrested in public to prove the same point? Great way to handle an "adult" scandal.

DANdy: Definitely Chuck. Blair even said, reassuringly, and anticipating this very response, that if his feelings are real, they'll find a way to figure it out. Yet he's still too big of a loser to man up. Amazing.

Gossip Guy: What are you thinking Chuck!? If you love the girl, just end this drama and be with her. We Chair fans deserve it.

4. Biggest stretch: Serena thinking Gabriel would simply return the money, Dan overhearing everything, or the increasingly strange Kelly Rutherford pregnancy-hiding outfits?

Gossip Guy: I'm sorry Serena, you may be pretty, but no man is giving up millions for you.

DANdy: Dan. That guy fields head-scratching phone calls and overhears incriminating conversations like it's his job. Although, Lily's collection of Hermès - Kelly Rutherford's son's name, no less - bags held in front of her stomach is a nice touch.

Mister Meester: Dan's a curious fellow and I'm getting used to seeing Lily bundled up, so I have to go with Serena. Poor girl actually said "just because he took all the money doesn't mean our feelings weren't real." So naive. So sad.

Serena Gets a Text

Serena. We love her dearly. She is not smart.

5. How will Chuck react to seeing Nate and Blair at the prom?

Mister Meester: By bringing Gossip Guy's true love Vanessa as a date in an attempt to make her jealous ... hmm, now I feel like this has happened already.

Gossip Guy: Probably with a couple of classic Chuck brooding stares, but Gossip Girl spoilers suggest he won't take any action. You're killing me Chuck.

DANdy: With open arms. He cut her loose, remember?

BONUS QUESTION: Are you excited for the '80s Lily flashbacks?

DANdy: Let's just say I've spent an hour picking lilies every day for the last three weeks.

Mister Meester: I haven't been this excited since I dreamed about Serena last... sorry, was that out loud? I still think that a Maggie Grace or Emily VanCamp would make a more convincing Lily, but will give Brittany Snow a shot.

Gossip Guy: Actually, surprisingly yes! When I saw them end the episode with the Lily mug shots I thought of the promo pics for the new Gossip Girl spinoff and instantly got psyched for the first time for this new show!!

    1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

Blair: (about Poppy) .. she's so evil, she makes the old Georgina look like the new Gerogina ....

    2. How are you liking the Gabriel-Poppy financial caper story line?

Its alright. I hope it goes away in the next episode. We have little episodes left and its taking too long to end.

More puzzling decision: Chuck letting go of Blair because he loves her, or Lily having Serena arrested to avoid drawing attention to the scheme?

Not necessarily puzzling as to why Chuck let Blair go, but WHY CHUCK WHY!!! I personally LOOOOVVVEEE C & B together! I think the C, B, & N love triangle is awesome, and I wish it wouldve come sooner.

  2. Gossip Girl

It seems like no one wants to see my past. From the first minute to the very last, this episode's gonna be a blast.

    xoxo,
    Lily

    1. Fave quote from episode?
--Hands down... "You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back." I effing love Georgina. I wish they'd make her a regular.

    2. Gabriel-Poppy storyline?
--Eh, Gabriel is kinda boring, but I kind of love how ruthlessly conniving Poppy is. I also love that it brought the Non-Judging Breakfast Club back together for crime-fighting-revenge-plot goodness. And anything that brings Georgie back into the mix is okay in my book.

    3. More puzzling decision: Chuck letting go of Blair because he loves her, or Lily having Serena arrested to avoid drawing attention to the scheme?
--That's tough. I want to say Chuck, because his monumental stupidity literally made me scream at the television, but I'm gonna have to go with Lily. Bitch has lost her damn mind. Having your own daughter arrested to "teach her a lesson" and avoid a scandal? That's some crazy right there.

    4. Biggest stretch: Serena thinking Gabriel would simply return the money, Dan overhearing ever

    1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

    S: You brought Nate?
B: I'm just as flummoxed as you are. I got out at 53rd and made a run for it but he is faster than he looks

Not only the line, but the way nate shows no reaction to it!So nate!

    2. How are you liking the Gabriel-Poppy financial caper story line?

No really, but i like the way it brought g back and i also like seeing chuck and blair plotting together to help serena!

    3. More puzzling decision: Chuck letting go of Blair because he loves her, or Lily having Serena arrested to avoid drawing attention to the scheme?

Lily, all the way!Not only did she not make sense but IMO she was actually cruel!
Chuck never had a mother and his father has spent his whole life putting him down, of course he's completely insecure! under these circumstances who wouldn't be?

    4. Biggest stretch: Serena thinking Gabriel would simply return the money, Dan overhearing everything, or the increasingly strange Kell

    1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
A lot of great quotes but it's a toss up between
S: You brought Nate? B: I'm just as flummoxed as you are. I got out at 53rd and made a run for it but he is faster than he looks
G: Well you can tell Jesus that the bitch is back
    and,
S: Chuck, why did you just do that? .... C: Because I love her, and I cant make her happy.
    (But you cannnnn!) :)

    2. How are you liking the Gabriel-Poppy financial caper story line?
I'm not really liking it at all, I dont like the characters, but I'm glad it's brought G back and I'm quite excited to see whats going to happen now 'the bitch is back'.

    3. More puzzling decision: Chuck letting go of Blair because he loves her, or Lily having Serena arrested to avoid drawing attention to the scheme?
Well, definitely Lily, Chuck letting Blair go actually makes sense, he's insecure, thinks he doesn't deserve her and just wants her to be happy.
But Lily getting Serena arrested...???! Uh...

  8. GeorgieGirl

    1. Georgina: "Lord cannot enter a body sullied by alcohol"
Chuck: "Good, 'cos I like to be the one doing the entering. To each their own holy water"!
Plus: Although it's not a quote, Nate's clueless and "stoned" face in most scenes of this episode was just priceless! So ... Natey!
    2. I don't care about the Gabriel-Poppy story. The only thing making it watchable is that Georgina's return happened because of this silly storyline.
    3. Nothing is puzzling. Lily's thing was just pathetic and lame. Chuck's choice of lying about his feelings to Blair was understandable. He simply believes he's doing what's best for her at this point.
    4. It's a tie between snoopy Dan and imbecile Serena.
    5. Whatever his reaction is, he'll still be amazing. He's Chuck Bass! I can forgive anything he does!
Bonus: We're about to have our CHAIR back and they're giving us ...... this???!!! WTF???

    1. Best Quote: Chuck: Because I love her and I can’t make her happy. - So sad yet it’s great just to hear him say it.
    2. Gabriel/Poppy Storyline: It would have been complicated and boring had Georgina, Chuck and Blair not come in and spiced it up a bit with their unorthodox methods and (always) great lines.
    3. More Puzzling: Both actually were. Chuck could have just had Blair right then and there if he just said those 3 little words and he didn’t, but I think that was just ones of his insecurities that he will get over within the next couple of episodes. As for Lily... I think the most scandalous thing ever is having your daughter thrown in jail!
    4. Biggest Stretch: Serena thinking that Gabriel would just hand over the money, she gives us blondes a bad name. As for Dan, a little bit of a stretch but it’s possible and as for Kelly Rutherford’s clothes, well that’s the costume department’s problem.
    5. Chuck Reacting Seeing Nair At Prom: Jealous most likely as I think h

  10. mara

I loved that chuck let her go... it was so selfless, and we all know that they are gonna be together in 2 episodes.... cant wait
