Parks and Recreation Review: "Telethon"

at .

"This isn't C-SPAN.  This is Local Access 46!"  It's really amazing how fleshed out the fictional town and residents of Pawnee, Indiana have become over the last two years.  On this week's episode, Leslie was tasked with running a diabetes "Telethon" during the prime hours of 2 am - 6 am.

Recaning a Chair

Of course, Leslie forced the entire Parks and Recreation cast to join her by answering telephones like poor Jerry with his switchboard, or providing entertainment like Andy's band Mouse Rat.  As with any Parks episode, there was a mjor plot advancement going on quietly behind the scenes as Mark was prepared to propose to Ann until Leslie found out that Ann actually wanted to dump him.

On the forefront, the telethon itself was loaded with laughs and throwbacks to prior episodes.  Whether it was Mouse Rat performing, the accounting guy lecture on Quickbooks, or Ron teaching us how to recane a chair, we were entertained the whole time, even if the telethon viewers were not.

The side plot of Tom kidnapping Detlef Schrempf had a few jokes that worked pretty well (So you read my Wikipedia entry?), but overall was not nearly as strong as what was going on in front of the on-screen camera.  Speaking of cameras, way to ask the cameraman for advice, Mark!  Classic.  You'll be missed, buddy.

By now you must realize we can't go a whole review without mention our Ron F'in Swanson.  This week's best Swanson moment?  As good as Ron recaning was, we're going to give it to Ron needing five hours of sleep-fighting to maintain his sunny disposition.

The rest of our favorite Parks and Recreation quotes are after the jump.

Ron: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Don't teach a man to fish, and you feed yourself. He's a grown man. Fishing's not that hard. | permalink
Ron: I suffer from a disorder called Sleep Fighting.
Leslie: Wow, must be terrible.
Ron: Only when I'm losing. | permalink
Tom: Does Pawnee Cable Access even have hair and makeup?
Leslie: Well, they have a communal lipstick in a box of combs. | permalink
Jerry: No, Leslie. Please. Tonight's kind of a big night. You know, all my kids are away...
Tom: Gross! No! That's Jerry's sex night. That ruins sex and tonight. | permalink

Parks and Recreation Season 2 Episode 21 Quotes

And it's important because Pawnee is the fourth fattest town in the U.S. It goes us, Dallas, Tulsa and certain parts of the Mall of America.

Leslie

I wish he had tiny puppy shoes. I would totally shine his little shoes for free. I do say the cutest stuff.
