It was a slow episode, but it paid off and I can't wait for the rest of the season!

Terrible episode.. Been a fan since season one. Hope this isn't a huge decline to an anti climatic end of greys all together. And the new attendings.. Pleaseeee.. Weak too pretty and not worthy already. Way to go writers and producers. Officially a terrible ep. Won't be suprised if ratings plummet.

I am so disappointed with this show. I honestly wish they had just ended the show last season rather than see them ruin the show this way. The highlight of my week is gone....looks like it is going to just be a "downer" of a show now. They have ruined it.

This episode was fantastic. Are you kidding me? I was in tears for most of it.
Also, this episode focused mostly on characters we've known since season 3 or below. I think that's what made is so great.
Just goes to show all the other characters are not needed. I didn't need April, nor teddy, or even owen really. Nor the new interns. Even Arizona didn't feel missed.

I think Shonda did what she had to do. The actors who portray Mark and Lexie chose to leave the show and so she had to write them out. I t was stellar with lots of tears. Hopefully, life goes on.

That ONE scene where Meredith leaves Derek after his best friend had just died, to go be with her "person" Cristina...just ruined the entire episode for me! It's too bad because, other than that one scene, the rest of the episode was incredible! Patrick Dempsey's acting was incredible! He knocked every single scene out of the park. I am so sick of Meredith putting Cristina before Derek...he is her HUSBAND! The Mer/Cris friendship is important to the show but it's just that...a friendship! Their friendship oversteps way too many boundaries. They are too clingy and it is sick and twisted! So sick of it!!

I loved how they commemorated Mark's death with the flashbacks/clips and the "Mark Sloan 1968-2012" at the end of the episode. The only thing that really irritates me is that Shonda did ALLLLLLL that for Mark, and then kills Lexie within 20 minutes of season 8 finale and has no commemoration this episode or last.
When you have that commemoration, it really feels like the character did die. While with Lexie, since it happened so fast, it almost feels like she should just be coming back soon or something. Like she just disappeared. Not enough closer.

one thought to say: this is the worst premiere I've seen so far ..... but after a horrible season finale I've expected nothing less than a horrible come back.

I loved the RIP Mark Sloan message at the end of the episode and tribute they payed to him throughout the episode, it was so heart wrenching. I still can't believe his dead. I never really felt invested in George or Lexie (tho I still liked them) but I did with Mark so I'm gutted. I know a lot of people want to bring the 'old greys' back but I love how the show is now the most. When you compare the characters from the first and second season to now, there is no comparison there is such a sense of maturity, and growth and love. I'm really happy Alex chose to fight for the kids and for what Arizona would have done in the end. I also loved Mer and Cristina having face time.

Yes, I was sad to see Mark go. I cried watching all the flashbacks while simultaneously cursing Shonda Rhimes to hell and then thanking God that she had the talent to write herself out of that crap-filled hole she dug for herself with the finale. I have gotten over Lexie's death. Truthfully, I didn't miss her, Teddy, or April this episode. I only wish Lexie could have gotten 1/10 of the sendoff that Mark got tonight. Overall, this episode made me realize why I always come back to watch more Grey's... laughing, crying, and being thoroughly entertained.
BTW... Half of these comments sound as if there were written by people who didn't watch the Season 8 finale or hear any casting news all summer. Which would be totally okay notwithstanding the fact that you're posting on the board of a TV FAN(antic) WEBSITE.

I looooved it! I cried like an idiot with McSteamy's departure but I wont stand Arizona being a wuss! I mean, her father would think the worst of her if he saw her like that. She needs to put a prostetic leg on and get her ass in the OR! Does any one have ever seen Doc in CSI, he lack both his legs and he is still a kick ass forensic doctor!

I definitely cried. RIP Mark Sloan but I am kinda okay with it because I dont think we would ever have gotten over losing Lexie. I knew that Arizona didnt die but I was think that maybe she lost a couple years off her memory and didnt remember Callie or the baby or her work. But the leg was unexpected.
Cant wait for next week to see what actually happened!

I'm just glad that Arizona didn't die. I thought she would die or lost her leg. Thank god it's not the former.

I didn't like that Mark had to die. Really out of all people Mark Sloan? He was the funniest! And where is Teddy? And why April has to come back? I thought when they disconnected Mark he was still going to breathe on his own. This sucks!

I think this episode was well written. I loved the flashback scenes giving viewers a last hoorah with Mark. I thought that it was a nice way to say goodbye to his character. And for the record, I think the writters at TvFanatic.com do a great job every day! I love reading about your opinions and how your review shows!! I check this website 247 cause if I miss something I know I can read it here first thing in the AM!! Thanks for always allowing people to post their comments and opinions, keep up the good work!! And if you ever need a substitute opinion for Sons of Anarchy, I am your girl!!

Had a feeling half way through that Arizona lost her leg, but I totally missed everyone else throughout the episode missed April, can't wait to watch her and Jackson this season.....missed Lexie but I'm glad they killed off Mark so aptly as I would have been heartbroken watching one without the other...it would have been too sad. Didn't really miss Teddy though.
Alex obviously wasn't going to leave SGH and Christina is obviously going to come back very predictable but I also think that before she comes back she is going to learn a few people skills or well it's going to be forced upon her it seems.....loved that Owen went and got April as he never should have fired her in the first place.
But I loved loved loved his verbal slap down of that whiney inconsiderate new batch doc when she was whining about Mer.....

Worst premiere episode EVER. I cannot believe we waited all summer for this crap. When you end a season with a cliffhanger, you are so supposed to fill people in on the premiere episode, that’s just how it works. Shonda&Co always trying to do something “different”. Apparently next week episode is going to tell us the whole story which is so dumb because we know mark is dead so the emotional side is over, we know Arizona lost her leg and everyone else is alive so what is the point? Hopefully this gets better or there is a point to this weird story telling because am tired of this bullshit and I love the show to much to stop watching. I am happy that my babies are finally ATTENDINGS

What just happened? Oh, I spent an hour going between slitting my wrists over Sloan and wanting to throw the TV out the window over Arizona. Supposedly we're supposed to get the "whole story" next week. This episode was awful. It can only go up from here, I hope! Sheesh. An hour I'll never get back! And of all the people to bring back...APRIL?! Leave her on the farm!
