NCIS > NCIS Round Table: "Shabbat Shalom" > Comments Page 2
Just when I think the last episode I watched was terrific, I watch the next one and it blows my mind. NCIS is such a wonderful show and it boggles my mind why this show and all the actors, writers, director, etc. have never been nominated for an Emmy. The actors are all wonderful. I thought that Eli might die only because of the title of this episode, but I didn't see Jackie's death coming. I'm anxious to see the next episode. I enjoy reading other fans comments, but please don't pick on Tony or Ziva!
Ever since my wife roped me into watching this (because she has the hots for Mark Harmon) i'ts pulled me in, especially after the ADDITION of Rocky Carroll as Vance. Gibbs' character needs a strong foil to work against. Now, this epi, I almost expected collateral death when that assassin fired into the house, and when Vance came out alone, I suspected. To see Gibbs standing near that operating room like a lost little boy, and Vance's appearance after, was really heartbreaking .. the comic book world could take a clue from this, that deaths (of characters) are not gimmicks to play with. And as far as Vance folding up after this, recall that his character killed a man in self-defense while on a hospital bed. No, Vance is out of Chicago .. and Chi boys don't lay down and take a beating!
Yes, this was truly amazing. Everyone really stepped up. You could see the emotions even when words were not said. STill can't believe they didn't wait for sweeps week to show it.
I think Eli is dead. Hate to see him go as he brought something to the show no other character could. I understand the shock and drama in doing it, but will miss him a lot. Poor Ziva, no family left.
Never liked Vance, but I feel bad Mrs. Vance died. Should of been him. lol Rocky did do a good job......just don't like the character of Vance.
The episode was absolutely AMAZING. Cote and Nouri were fantastic. Will be watching it again and can't wait for next week. Vance, I'm not thrilled with his character so I would not mind seeing him leave the show but as for the others, they all need to stay. Eli may not be dead but a means to retirement??? Shmiel is involved.
In this country your are innocent until proven guilty. Abby herself said that the hat was a very popular hat sold everywhere. Eli had told Ziva that he didn't arrive (forgot when) but it was after the murder. So, he couldn't have done it, plus there were no connections between a Mossad Director and this man. She did decided to follow up to see if he had lied to her and when she found out the truth, cut him out of her life forever. She had no proof before then, you can't bring people in for questioning on just the fact that people wear and have the same clothing, plus that would have blown his cover and could have started a major war, between Iran and Israel. Remember, if their countries knew what was going on.....there would be MAJOR ramifications.
Both Leon and Ziva.
Ziva recognized her father before she left for the night when Wilkins killers picture was up on the plasma. Tony and Gibbs saw her reaction and question her about it. She told them her reaction was nothing and went off to dinner. If she'd said: That's Eli or my father he would have been brought in for questioning rather than being at the Vance house.
Vance is responsible for inviting father and daughter to his house in the 1st place.
I'm worried about how this is going to play out. I'm worried that it's all just going to be left unaddressed with no lasting repercussions for anyone and by the time we get back to new episodes again in February (after Shiva) everyone will be their normal selves again and Eli and Jackie, like Kate before them, will rarely be mentioned again.
Best scene: Gibbs watching the Emergency doors and Tony standing back and watching Gibbs. No dialogue, just pure emotion. Great cinematography from Dennis Smith.
I'll put my money on the assassination of Eli and the collateral death of Jackie on Ziva's old (literally) friend: Shmeil.
I think that what Vance boss will bring up
Vance should look at himself as to whom to blame. He knew Eli had a target on his head, yet he provided no protection detail (could have ask Gibbs and team since they knew he was in town and they could do it discretly) AND he invited this marked man INTO HIS HOME, knowing that people wanted Eli dead. Vance played a big part in his wife being killed and as head of a agency, should have known better.
No question that this episode had shock value. I don't think Eli is still alive - Ziva is familiar enough with death to determine his condition. I can't think of a reason they would fake Jackie's death. That said, I think the revenge going forward will be critical. My guess is Vance will likely feel he is through with Ziva--human nature makes us want to blame someone for something so devastating and she is the most likely target. They will need to find a way for Ziva to redeem herself in his eyes. Or perhaps others are right and Vance will leave the show. This will be difficult to work through and it may take until the season finale to exact revenge. I don't understand people's dislike of Ziva. She is a talented actor and a good contrast to Kate.
Why this show has never been nominated for an Emmy as Best Dramatic Series or Mark Harmon Best Actor is beyond me. This show over 9 years has continued to put out solid episodes year after year. This one is a prime example of what great television is all about. I commend everyone on the series for a fantastic episode!
I have always loved NCIS, but "Shabbat Shalom" was incredible. I figured Eli was either going to be shot or die, but I did not expect Jackie Vance to die! The entire show was great. The emotions that involved each and every member was great, yet so very moving. I cried when Ziva shouted for her father! It was so touching. And the look of compassion and outrage were far greater than words.
I can hardly wait til next week. Please - Please do not allow any member of this show to leave, it would not be whole otherwise. I am just shocked over this episode. Bravo!!
While I have no complaints about Cote de Pablo's acting, I didn't think her very vocal response to her father's death was in character or in keeping with their history. Tears and sorrow, certainly, but not running and shouting.
I also agree with those who found Jackie's death gratuitous.
To me, however, the low point of the episode was Eli's casual murder confession. That Eli would kill a man for taking his photo and then pass it off as a trivial act, and think that Ziva would not mind ... it's simply not credible. Eli may be a psychopath, and he may be used to passing off the murders of Palestinians as necessary for Israeli security, but he's not that clueless.
It also bothers me that Israelis are being portrayed in increasingly dark and cynical terms on NCIS and elsewhere (e.g., Covert Affairs). I don't support Israeli policy at all, but that doesn't make Israelis ruthless, duplicitous killing machines.
@Mike NCIS is the #1 show it is because of the expertise of all the characters. Each one is special in their own way. I watch all the marathons.
@tiva loved your comment very well written and i agree with everything you said.think we will have to wait a bit more for tiva.
Writers-producers definetely do have talent to create and administrate emotions.Their planning and their perception about series is important.
Technically, however i suggest that they "burned" some very good future scenarios, some of the best ratings on tv and two good actors.
Eli (M Nouri)for instance in series even as a retired would offer some very amusing episodes with Tony-Ziva-Tony senior relationship and probably the best ratings so far.
On the case, Eli two times try protect Ziva even by made her furious. Also gave her a wish. There was a proeconomia to his words from writers. As his identity was exposed it was a matter of time something to happen. Its like to provoke it or to have reach to an end.
I assume personal differences with people-used by others- might presented as the cause.
Maybe also writers present Eli trying to protect Lion or Jackie Vance.
From the best-most dramatic episodes in this sequence but with closing a circle.
1. Describe this episode in one word (or two, or three, or four) Heartbreaking and Shocking.
2. Best episode of NCIS Season 10 so far?
yes it is so far this is why NCIS is still going strong in season 10.
3. Favorite quotes or scenes from "Shabbat Shalom"
Ziva realizing her father is dead and when she called for him and sat by him hugging him.
4. The twice-fatal conclusion: Did you see it coming?
not about Eli but not so much with Jackie I read a couple weeks a ago a follow fan said Jackie was going to die but I thought it was wrong but I was wrong it was her.
5. Does NCIS rely too heavily on character deaths?
no NCIS had worst Characters death with Kate, Jenny and Franks and this makes it more realistic.
6. Best acting performance of the night?
I say both Rocky Carroll and Cote de Pablo
7. Who do you think was behind the shooting?
am thinking to get Eli out like they say out with the old and in with the new.
Hi Janet I wish we would of had Tony and Ziva TLC too
This is where they will introduce the deputy director of NCIS to take over the investigation as Leon is too close to the case. New character with multi directions they can head into.
They needed to kill someone off to make the show believable again and since all of the main star are staying it had to be Ziva father and Vance wife
I agree completely with what Kris R said about Ziva. I just don't understand why they had to kill Jackie. At least there was one married- and happily- couple. I guess you can't have a life and work at NCIS.
@charli anyone with a first grade education would know that i meant ziva not mrs vance stop nit picking.
Putting the devastating deaths of Ziva's father and Vance's wife aside, how are the NCIS team (notably Vance and Gibbs) going to explain to the Sec Nav why these two men were in town and no one alerted Homeland Security or Sec Nav himself? Plus no one bothered to answer Sec Navs calls. I see trouble from that and am not sure which way it will go. Will Vance have to step down or will he step down on his own due to his wife's death in order to be available for his children? Any comments on that?
The show was incredible. I was a bit suprised they did not use it as a first or last show of the season. I agree with others who have commented that Ziva/Cote's performance stood out, we have never seen her like this. Gibbs also obviusly hoping the best for vance's wife & no doubt contemplating what this will do to the team. I am afraid this could be a reason to get rid of the vance character. It took him a long time to recover from his brush with death in a prior season.
It could also be used to get rid of ziva/cote but I really hope they will not do this.
Who did it? My best bet is on MOssade, another slap in the face to ziva. I though when Ziva came upon him, she said something like his name - as if she knew him. Did anyone else get this?
Eli was definately being squeezed out and wanted back in, & seemed to believe his friendship with the Iranian could produce some resolution. That would be a great legacy for Eli - who would not want that? Other radical iran
Last night's episode of NCIS, "Shabbat Shalom" was one of the best.
Vance has been edgy and watching his back since the "Enemies Foreign" and "Enemies Domestic" storyline (when a former agent tried to kill Vance). Last season's finale, "Pyramid" when the bomb was discovered in his the back of car, has made me wonder if he hasn't been considering walking away from the job.
It seems unlikely that Jackie and Eli survived last night's episode - it certainly seems that they did not - but stranger things have happened. I'm sad, though, if we have lost these two characters as they added depth to the NCIS "extended family".
I'm not sure if the full ramifications of this episode have been considered.
With two NCIS-centric character deaths during an episode that is neither part of the "sweeps weeks" programming nor part of the finale story-arc, it's difficult not to wonder wnat sort of fireworks the NCIS creative team has in mind for the rest of Season 10.
All things considered, this has to be considered one of the best episodes in the run of the show. A great one? That may hinge on how next week's episode plays out. An unforgetable one? Without a doubt.
