Castle Review: Moving Forward, Standing Still

at . Comments

Wow. Just... wow.

Who knew that an hour filled with mostly clips from previous seasons could be so amazing? In “Still”, Beckett steps on an activated explosive and must stay put while they try to disarm. Castle, being the gentleman he is, refuses to leave. So what happens when you put these two in an intense situation? Amazing things. Time to talk Castle...

In the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy, ABC had delayed this episode a week. The network absolutely did the right thing. In a touching and tension-filled hour, things were said, things were shown and it was pretty awesome.

Beckett in Major Danger

The bomber had planted an explosive under his own floorboard after finding out he had Stage 4 Brain Cancer and a son he couldn’t find.

From there, this episode was filled with clips of amazing moments between Caskett that even a non-shipper would adore.

First, let’s acknowledge that Castle is one of a kind. The man stayed with his woman while she stood on an explosive. That is true love.

Second, he was still able to make jokes and keep her mind off of it while making her smile. Pretty much unreal.

Third, between the tense moments and Castle and Beckett’s amazing crime solving skills, they were able to disarm the bomb at the last minute. Not that there was ever any doubt that Beckett would be fine. Still, regardless, I didn’t expect to tear up from watching clips of episodes that I have seen before.

So, let’s talk flashbacks. Which were the best? Castle thinking he's a cop... the inappropriate comments between the two... Beckett in her revealing clothes... the trouble they have gotten themselves into. All of it was pretty amazing. One of my personal favorites? Beckett emerging from that pool in that ridiculous gold bathing suit. HOT.

One thing that you can’t help but notice, especially after Castle pointed it out, was the ever changing hairstyles that Kate Beckett has rocked. Seriously, she looks completely different from Season One.

Part of the fun of these two being stuck in the apartment was the argument over who liked who first. Even the phone call to Espo was hilarious. Who did like whom first? I’m saying Castle, but Beckett wasn’t too far behind.

Now, to the biggest moment of the nigh:  In fear that she had minutes left, Beckett blurted out the words we've been waiting to hear. Right to Castle’s face, in face: “Rick, I love you.” As a Caskett shipper, I can’t help but say, IT”S ABOUT TIME.

These two have really grown as a couple in an amazing way that hasn’t ruined the show at all. It’s rare to have the main characters maintain a successful relationship without losing the spark. Castle returned the exchange and all is well in the last of Casket.

Side Notes:

  • I know I wasn’t alone in tearing up. Who was with me?
  • A couple quick glances of Captain Roy Montgomery!! I miss this man. Although, Gates is growing on me. Speaking of Gates...
  • She knows about Castle and Beckett! This can add a whole new layer of fun for the writers. Gates looks to be a Caskett shipper!! Join the club, girl!
  • Where was Lanie once again?
  • Espo is the man. He was ready to take down the suspect to save his friend. The face alone showed how serious he was. I know that Espo is definitely one person you want having your back.
  • You have to love when the writer’s vest returns.

So what did you think of “Still?” Did you enjoy the hour filled of clips or was it a letdown after last week? There are only two episodes left.

Will the writers leave us with an emotional cliffhanger or will it be filled with fun? Hit up the comments and let us know what you think. Until next week, Caskett Shippers!

I loved this episode it was emotional in many ways yet very amazing. The " who fell for who first" thing was all too funny. While the " flashbacks" made me cry. I also cried when Kate say."Rick, I love you" when there was only about 1/2 hr left for them to disarm the bomb. I loved it when he comes back with only 10 mins left and with the help of Ryan is able to disarm it at the few second. ( phew!!!). This episode would have been a idea for the 100th episode rather then the one they did considering most 100th epidode are filled with "flashbacks". I also kinda figured that Gates knew espesially after the valentines day present mix-up.The fact that she doesn't mind them being together it awesome. I also love that she say 'oh , come on kiss him already' ( not sure if I got it completely correct)

There's a really simple answer as to why Lanie wasn't in this episode aside from the flashback.......drum roll...... There was no dead body in this episode. MEs tend to not be on the canvas unless a body has dropped.

I waited to watch "the Squab & the Quail" until watching "Still" just to see them in the order they were meant to be viewed -"the Squab & the Quail" seems so off. There is no possible way they go from being completely in love & Castle staying w/her while she stood on a bomb to the "Quail" madness.

Agree that this was a great episode. Almost too many flashbacks but they were wonderful to see. Is it just me or does Kate look a lot thinner in her face as the show has progressed? They better not go back to an off-again relationship status after this episode. It was one great leap forward in their relationship and has everybody cheering. If the writers and network screw it up they'll have a lot of upset fans. It took too many seasons of teasing us to get to this point. I'm sure we can continue with a great series of them solving mysteries as a couple!!!

I liked the section where they remembered all the scariest things they have been through; but the scariest to them was when Martha came home unexpectedly while they were in bed. Love Martha!

I don't think there is much that I can add. I loved this episode! I am a huge fan of seasons past, so it was wonderful to recap the very special moments! Made me realize how much I miss Captain Montgomery...that lovable man! Great writing; superb acting; topnotch direction; flawless support from the entire crew equals the best show on TV. Castle for me is pure, magical, joyful entertainment!

First of all, BEST EPISODE EVER. Second, yes, I cried like a baby, and I figured Gates knew about Castle and Beckett, she seems to be smart enough to have it figured out early on, actually. Yes, I missed Lanie, too. That girl is amazing, and she and Espo belong together. Speaking of Espo, I LOVE THAT MAN! He is so sizzling hot when he is being protective of the people he loves, and I was really disappointed that he didn't get to interrogate the bomber! He would have kicked serious rump! And YES, again, to the return of the Writer's Kevlar vest! LOVED IT! My favorite flashbacks were the kisses, inappropriate comments (and witty quips) and whenever we got to see Beckett all dressed up, and Castle drooling over her. Sigh. Yep, that man truly loves her. Awesome.

This was a great show! I had missed the earlier episodes of Castle and loved seeing the flashbacks. The warmth and feelings shown in this show would make it a perfect finale if and when this show ever ends, which I hope is not for a long time!

Loved episode. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused because of the change in sequence. (The switch was needed.) At the end of last week it seemed that Kate was questioning Castle's intensions. This week the both profess their love for each other. Where are we going with this. I'm really not in the mood for a cliff hanger in their relationship.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "Still" the episode that ABC specifically asked for and was filmed after both SATQ and the episode that's coming next week, "The Human Factor"? We won't know how the switch of "Still" with SATQ really works until we see the last two episodes, but I think it's better now than it would have been if they had aired as originally scheduled.
