The Mentalist Season 7 Episode 1 Review: Nothing But Blue Skies

Agent Fischer's gone. Agent Vega arrives and Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon are now an official couple on The Mentalist Season 7 Episode 1

I couldn't have been happier to see Jane coming to Lisbon's door with two cups of coffee in his hands. Coffee is a sure sign of love. (Just ask Castle fans.)

Teresa's had the last two weeks off and how I wish we could have witnessed everything that occurred between these two during that time but I suppose that will have to be left to our imaginations or covered by the many fanfiction writers out there.

Lisbon wanted to keep their private life private, at least for a while, and I really couldn't blame her. She was engaged to Marcus Pike just a couple of weeks ago, although that had to be the shortest engagement in history. I don't think it even lasted 24 hours. But as much as I'm looking forward to seeing the team's reactions – especially Cho's – I can understand her need to keep things quiet for a bit.

The murder of the week was intriguing. I couldn't figure out why Agent Geist would have said, "I know you" to the man about to murder him. A kidnapping that occurred when Geist was 12 years old was the last thing I expected. I liked the way Jane pieced together the clues as he saw the bed on the floor and the night light in the outlet.

Agent Kim Fischer was gone and as much as she began to grow on me towards the end of The Mentalist Season 6, I can't say I'm really going to miss her.

Rookie Agent Michelle Vega appeared to have a lot of potential. Jane was quick to read her military background. She's young, ambitious, and willing to learn and so far I'm enjoying how she interacts with the team.

As much as some things otherwise remained the same, some things have noticeably shifted.

First, Jane was definitely feeling more protective of Lisbon as he was quick to speak up when the other agent was giving Lisbon flack in the bowling alley. I don't know that Jane has ever been so vocal about such a thing in the past.

Second, Lisbon was quick to point out she's no longer comfortable with Jane hiding things from her when they work a case, as she told him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane, you don't need to wait until I need to know to tell me things. Not any more.

Lisbon

Jane seemed to accept that and opened up to her about what he'd deduced without hesitating further. That's certainly a step in the right direction.

Once again, I loved how much of a Jisbon shipper Agent Abbott is and how well he's able to read Patrick Jane. He instinctively picked up on the fact Jane and Lisbon are now a couple without having to be told. Hopefully since Jane really isn't an agent there are no bureaucratic protocols to keep them from working together.

Abbott even gave Jane the heads up that Marcus Pike was back in the building. Still, their meeting was horribly awkward as Pike knew Jane and Lisbon were together. I thought it was pretty presumptive of him to ask Jane what he had to offer Lisbon, but then again Marcus' ego has to be pretty bruised after getting engaged only to be dumped about 12 hours later.

I practically cheered when Jane told Lisbon the truth about what Pike had said to him. That's a big step forward for him. He's so used to hiding things and his response was even better.

I think we know what feels right and I think that that should be our guide.

Jane

The smile on Teresa's face certainly said she agreed. Now I simply can't wait for the next episode to see more.

The Mentalist Season 7 Episode 1 Quotes

It's possible I was a tad hasty but you got my ire up.

Jane

Lisbon: We should think about getting you a key to this place, don't you think?
Jane: That's a step. It would make things easier.
