Shameless Season 6 Episode 2 Review: #AbortionRules

at .

Where there's a Gallagher, there's drama.

That sentiment echoed on through Shameless Season 6 Episode 2 which had Fiona realizing she was in too deep with Sean. If there's anything this chick should have learned by now, it's that boning your boss doesn't get you anywhere.

I completely understand why she's standing by her man, but at the same time, she's putting herself on the firing line. She's been through so much, and it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

Props to Sean for being honest. That's not a trait any of Fiona's previous partners have held, so there's that. What Fiona needs to do is think about what affect a full on relapse for Sean would mean for her and their potential kid.

There's also the fact that she has yet to tell him about it. I don't understand her thought process, but Sean would be ecstatic to learn this news. You all saw how cut up he was when his ex-wife took the kid out of town.

The pregnancy could be the thing that forces Sean to get the help he needs and if he does, then that shows just how committed he is to staying clean. There's obviously a whole legal barrier with it though. He could be sent back to jail and I don't think that's something he'd be willing to do.

Then again, it might be something he's willing to do in the hopes of having a smooth relationship with Fiona. Hopefully, they both manage to make it work, but Debbie will probably love that Fiona is pregnant.

Speaking of Debbie, she's very mature for her age, but I do wholeheartedly agree with what Fiona said to her about raising the kid. In Fiona's mind, she's thinking Debbie will fob the kid off and have her bring him up. That's pretty much what's happened to her all her life with Frank and Monica, so I see where she's coming from.

I wouldn't see Debbie doing that in a million years, but it seems to be the Gallagher way, right? I felt horrible for Debbie when she learned that Derek left town of his own accord. That was a shock at first, but when you think about it, it's not all that surprising.

Carl: Knives are in the drawer if you want to do a home abortion.
Fiona: Carl!

Debbie essentially wanted to trap him so that she could worm her way into his family. All she wants is a loving family, but she seems to forget pretty easily that Fiona has loved and cared for her practically all her life.

There's no denying that Fiona has done some questionable things, but she does care for her family. Well, everyone except her parents and no one can take that away from her. At one point, she was working six jobs to see them through life. Where was her thanks for that? She didn't need to step up to the challenge of raising her siblings, but she did. She'll make a great mother to her own kid.

Lip's cougar storyline is taking a very dark turn. I really hope he isn't fooled into killing the husband. I'm beginning to think Helene loves reeling in these young guys to do her dirty work and then moves swiftly on to the next one. It will be heartbreaking if he throws his future away for her.

"#AbortionRules" was another solid effort from this Showtime drama. Even after six years on the air, it's continuing to be one of the most compelling shows on the air and I can't wait to see what's next for these crazy characters.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • The texts Fiona was sending Debbie were hilarious. I bet they were both learning some stuff from them. It's amazing what you can find from a quick Google search.
  • Will Jonas know that it was Kevin who tampered with his bike, or will he blame the two Lisas? I can't wait to find out how it all goes down!
  • Is Ian really taking his meds, or is he just spiraling back out of control? He needs to try get more help. He's now out of a job, and it will just look unprofessional if he gets the job back in an instant.
  • Will Frank ever calm down? He's always got a scheme somewhere up his sleeve, and this week, it led to him killing a woman with stage four cancer. I get he's grieving for Bianca, but the dude really needs to learn to read signals. That poor doctor!
  • Is anyone else not digging the changes at The Alibi Room? These hipsters are changing the pub and I'm certain that it's going to get shut down in the next few weeks.
