The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11 Review: The Book of Dougs

NBC's supernatural comedy is really hitting its stride in the second half of its third season.

The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11 is a great continuation of the show's latest events, and it feels like everything is building up to something mindblowing.

Each episode seems to add another piece to the evergrowing puzzle, and we can only hope that by the finale we'll finally get to step back and see the full picture.

Put To The Test - The Good Place

While The Good Place Season 3 Episode 10 led us to believe the gang was finally in the actual Good Place, we knew that there was no way things were that simple.

It wasn't surprising at all to discover that they were simply in the Good Place mailroom and the actual Good Place was trillions of miles away.

Of course, that information didn't stop Eleanor from trying to break down a door and make her own way to the Good Place.

Michael's determination to figure out what's really going on never ceases to amaze. For a character who started off as a villain, he has really come a long way and put himself on the side of justice. If anyone can get to the bottom of this, it's Michael.

However, his talk with the Good Place committee seemed like it was too good to be true. The series loves to make things as difficult for its characters as possible, and there was no way the random band of heroes was going to jump in and save the day.

Therefore, when the committee revealed there was a thousand-year hold up before they could take definitive action, it was pretty much to be expected.

On another note, it was also nice that the relationships that have been coming to a boiling point all season long finally received their due.

Chidi and Eleanor are together and despite running for their lives and trying to stay out of hell, they make each other genuinely happy.

Their makeshift date was absolutely adorable and they were able to make the best of their situation despite the impending doom that's always laying ahead.

Here's some champagne for you for thanking me for thanking you for thanking me for thanking you for thanking me for the champagne you sent me.

Chidi was also able to raise Eleanor's spirits when she started to break down, which has really been a long time coming.

Together at Last - The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11

Surprisingly enough, Eleanor is the strongest character on The Good Place. No matter what is going on around her, Eleanor's primary concern is her friends. Despite what she may be going through herself, it always takes a back seat to the needs of those around her.

Eleanor Shellstrop is an excellent example of character development at its finest.

The relationship between Jason and Janet has been somewhat neglected by the show over the past season, so it was due to be a part of the picture again.

While Janet's feelings for Jason have been made plain and clear, the audience hasn't really had a chance to understand Jason's feelings for her in return.

Tahani, who has done a lot of growing herself, tries her best to get both of them on the same page, but unfortunately, it backfires on her.

Tahani: Why are you crying?
Jason: I just like being a part of things.

Tahani Time - The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11

It's Tahani's good intentions that lead to bad events, and those bad events that enable Michael to realize what's really going on with the Good Place point system.

There are so many unintended consequences to well-intentioned actions.

In fact, Michael's analysis of why no one is getting into the Good Place is surprisingly deep and sparks a lot of questions.

In today's world, being a good person is no longer a black and white concept. There are about a million shades of gray in between and it's almost impossible not to get caught up in them.

Every action, even with the best intentions, has a chain reaction.

A simple act of kindness is now much more complicated than it used to be. Like Michael himself explained, you could give someone a bouquet of flowers and somehow trace that back years and years until you find someone it impacted negatively. Because of that negative effect, you lose Good Place points.

With that kind of logic, the Bad Place doesn't even need to interfere. The system is already messing up everything on its own.

Essentially, the system is twisting all good deeds and finding a way to make them bad. As long as this continues, getting into the Good Place is basically impossible.

The Mailroom - The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11

Michael's plan to go to the judge could very well backfire on him. Not only has she been after them since the start of The Good Place Season 3, but they're meeting her in one of the most dangerous places in the universe.

As usual The Good Place Season 3 Episode 11 ended on a cliffhanger. But thankfully, the wait is very short until answers might come from the next installment. Hopefully.
