The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 19 Review: The Mystery of the Dodgy Draft

Go Max!

On The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 18, we dealt with the possibility of Laura being pregnant. While it played a part in The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 19, there wasn't any resolution to the previous cliffhanger until the final moments of the episode.

Thankfully the show chose to focus more on the case of the week instead of your typical " is she or isn't she" story they could have gone with.

It was so odd seeing Jake at Laura's house having breakfast with her and the boys. Laura and Jake are probably the friendliest exes on the planet. How many people would seriously invite their ex over for breakfast? Jake seems to still be slowly weaseling himself into Laura's life and you have to wonder if there's going to be a moment when Laura makes a choice between Tony or Jake.

Frankie talking with the kid trying to get more information on Treva was amusing. Did she really think she was going to get a clear answer out of a little kid?

Of course Meredith would be the one to figure out something is up with Laura and correctly guess Laura might be pregnant. Laura would be a fool to think she'd be able to keep something from detectives, especially a group who have proven time and time again they're extremely intelligent.

Laura confirming she's pregnant without truly knowing was perplexing. You'd think she would go to great lengths to find out the real truth instead of being distracted by the possibility; though Meredith grilling her on how it happened was rather hilarious.

The case of the week, the murder of a teacher's aide named Treva, was shockingly interesting and I found myself invested in trying to find out who killed her. The writers did a decent job of making it the focal point of the hour and making Laura's possible pregnancy a secondary plot point.

They need to stop having at least one suspect run away every week. This whole gimmick is getting old; though at least this time the guy was running away from Meredith and not Billy. You also know when the suspect runs, they usually aren't guilty, you just can't get behind them as a true suspect.

How fantastic was it when Laura got advice on the case from Alicia? Alicia has really turned out to be a great addition to the show and I'm enjoying how they're developing her character and having her interact with the other people on the show.

The person who murdered Treva was actually shocking – I wasn't expecting Sara's mom, Dawn, to be the killer. You'd think a woman like Dawn, who was overbearing and controlled her daughter right down to the person she dated, wouldn't want to commit murder because it would put her own daughter in a bad light. Apparently Dawn was only concerned with herself.

The best part of the night was when Laura kissed Max right on the lips and praised God she wasn't pregnant. I loved Max's reaction with everything and I couldn't stop laughing.

What did you think of "The Mystery of the Dodgy Draft"? Do you think Tony and Laura are in it for the long haul?
