at .  Updated at .

Gillian Anderson is officially out of American Gods Season 2.

The talented actress played the role of New Media on American Gods Season 1 and was a hit with audiences.

Anderson announced her departure from the series shortly after it was announced the show was losing two of the creative forces behind it.

Per Deadline, Austin & Ally actress, Kahyun Kim will assume the role when the series returns from an extended hiatus.

The Starz drama received a formal second season order last May, but the departures of Executive Producers, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green put the series' future in doubt.

According to the official logline: "American Gods pits Old Gods against New Gods, with the ancient mythological ones fearing irrelevance as their believers die off or are seduced by the money, technology, and celebrity offered by the younger deities."

"Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is an ex-con who, left adrift by the recent death of his wife, becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to conman Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). "

"But in truth, Mr. Wednesday is a powerful old deity, on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory."

The report also states that Dean Winters and Devery Jacobs have joined the robust cast for Season 2.

The first season was a hit for the premium cable network. It secured 0.7 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in live + same day ratings.

The numbers swelled significantly with delayed viewing factored in.

What do you think of Anderson's departure?

It's like one of those good/news bad news jokes, isn't it? The good news is, we'are lettin' you out early. The bad news is your wife's dead.

Shadow, we're going to be releasin' you later this afternoon. You'll be gettin' out a coupla days early. There's no good way to say this, so I'll put it plain. This came in from Johnson City Hospital from Eagle point. Your wife, she died in the early hours of this morning. It was ah, an automobile accident.
