Sororities are like, so totally bitchin, right?! At least, that's what Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 6 wanted us to believe.

Or, I think that's what they wanted us to believe.

It's not that the episode wasn't enjoyable. It may have been Charmed's best episode to date. However the incessant need to drill the feminist agenda into viewers minds? It's getting pretty annoying.

Like, what's their damage, you know?

Don't get me wrong. I'm a feminist, and a show led by three strong female leads of color is always something I'll sign up for. I understand the desire to use a platform to break through the Hollywood glass ceiling. But there are ways to let your point be known without shoving it into your audience's faces.

When you stop letting actions speak louder then words and instead air on the side of exposition with every message you try and send, your dialogue gets clunky and you end up alienating more people than you draw in.

In my review for Charmed (2018) Season 1 Episode 5, I spoke about how lovely the writers depicted feminism, by exemplifying it through the actions of a specific character. There was no overuse of socially conscious verbiage. Instead, it was a subtle point on the power of women supporting women via character action and reaction.

The message landed beautifully.

"Kappa Spirit" takes two steps back in this aspect. Instead of showing us through character action, the episode decides to drill the idea that sororities aren't airheaded, haze-filled bitch fests through the mouthpieces of multiple characters.

Throughout the entire Kappa storyline, characters continuously preach to Mel about how fantastic and supportive sororities truly are. Both Maggie and Jenna insist that Kappa isn't about bullying, hazing, or negativity. That the sisters of Kappa house would never act so shamelessly. Instead, they blame everything on wine cooler loving ghost, Brenda.

Except here's the problem with that. Even if Brenda was a horrible person, that doesn't make Jenna embarrassing her in front of the entire college campus acceptable.

And it has absolutely nothing to do with Lucy pouring an entire pitcher of mojito on Maggie's head when she was trying to apologize.

At the end of the day, Kappa sisters may not be killers, but they aren't angels, either. And if the show is trying to prove that pledging a sorority is a healthy, happy and fun thing to do in 2018? They need to make their message a lot more streamlined.

Because from where I was sitting, Mel was making a whole lot of sense, and I'd take the Vera-Vaughn sisterhood over the Kappa one any day.

Beyond the Greek Life propaganda, the episode did manage to make some notable improvements, especially in regards to story structure.

Things are finally starting to slow down, and the plots of each episode are beginning to look more and more focused. There's a much more serialized element to the themes of the show.

The idea that Macy may be partially demonic was a thrilling twist, and something the OG Charmed never explored.

The Vera-Vaughn sisters may be the strongest chance at saving the world from evil, but what if one of those sisters is evil herself? The writers have so much potential with this subject matter. It's a completely fresh idea that has no ties to the original material, and I can't wait to see where they take it.

The mark on Galvin is still an interesting plot point. I was genuinely surprised when the "darkness" was revealed to be emulating from Macy instead of him. It's good to know this must mean more for Galvin. Who he is, clearly reaches beyond just another boyfriend demon the sisters have to vanquish.

I'm just still underwhelmed with his character in general.

Something about Galvin and Macy doesn't fit for me. Their scenes tend to fall flat, and Macy has more chemistry with just about every other person she shares screen time with; including Summer and Harry.

I'd love to see Macy and Summer connect somehow. A romance is unlikely, but I am still a strong proponent for not letting Galvin get in the way of what would undeniably be a fantastic friendship.

Macy and Harry, on the other hand, seem to have a connection which very well may be leading beyond simple friend territory.

It's an obvious staple of the original: witch and white lighter fall in love. I've been wondering if the writers would try and implicate a new type of forbidden love story into the reboot.

At first, I doubted the possibility, being that Maggie is young, Mel is gay and Macy has eyes for someone else.

But Galvin is involved with an amazing woman, and Charmed seems to be taking the time to establish a special one-on-one bond between Macy and Harry in a way it hasn't with the other sisters.

The chemistry is definitely there between the actors, and I wouldn't be against seeing this pairing become canon.

It was nice to have a "Macy centered" episode, but also fulfilling to watch the other two sisters pair up to vanquish their own demon.

It's not that I don't want Niko to return (because I absolutely, without a doubt do), but post-breakup Mel displayed a certain vulnerability to her character that had been lacking in previous episodes. I found her to be much more likable. She was still a protective sister towards Maggie and strong in her convictions but in a much less grating way.

Maggie, of course, was endearing as ever, always managing to learn from her mistakes and grow as a character. When you're able to write a flawed character who still comes off as delightful as Maggie does, you know you're doing something right. Characters don't have to be perfect to be loved. They just have to be real.

Overall, I'm genuinely interested in where the show is going. Macy's past, Mel's future, Maggies present; all of those stories are intriguing to me. Now that the writers are learning to focus their narratives, and the actors are settling into their roles, this show is definitely something worth sticking around for.

Did any of the OG fans catch the familiar mythology with certain spells in the Book Of Shadows?

I love Maggie but who is dressing her? Everything she wears looks so uncomfortable.

I'm not a fan of the special effects in this reboot! It's almost too much CGI, it takes me out of the moment. I wish they'd go simpler.

I love that the girls are starting to have autonomy over their own narrative. They are making their own choices, facing the consequences, and bouncing back the best they can. That's what Charmed is all about!

I still need to see more use of their powers! Especially Maggie’s?
