God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6 Review: A House Divided

Miles helped Hassan see the light!

It's entirely possible to be blinded by religion, and that's what happened on God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6.

Six weeks have passed since Miles received his first friend request from God and since then, Miles' journey of acceptance has been an up-and-down.

What's He Up To? - Tall - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6

As of now, Miles is no longer resisting the account, and instead, letting it play out the way it's destined.

Let's hope it stays that way for a while.

He believes that following the account's suggestions actually "gives him purpose."

That is why he had no qualms about inserting himself into his cab driver's family drama.

First off, does he ever work? Second off, that is absolutely no way to hail a cab!

While most of the episode sent the strongest message to date and paralleled Miles' tumultous relationship with his father, the initial interaction between Miles and Hassan was strange.

I know we're supposed to suspend disbelief, and I know that this is a feel-good show, but come on, that cab scene would never happen in real life.

It's just not how the world works! A cab driver would never ask passengers to stop by his house cause there was some family issue.

Three New Yorkers would never eagerly agree to go for a joy-ride and then stand by as the family fought in front of them.

And no way would either side agree to a joint dinner. I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the writing.

However, it gave us the hilarious moment where Hassan, a man entirely devoted to his beliefs and faith, found out that Miles is an atheist.

His facial expression was priceless.

She's Gone - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6

I'm surprised this was Miles' first religious suggestion as it forced him to look at his own beliefs a bit differently.

Miles felt a connection to Hassan and his son because he knew what it was like to stray away from the religious path on which he was raised.

But since his relationship with his father had strengthened, he felt like he could provide advice that was informed and helpful.

He was speaking from experience when he told Hassan that the longer they let their feud go, the more distance it would create and the harder it would be to fix.

If both parties are too stubborn to call a truce, it will only fester.

Surprisingly, Mateen wasn't the problem at all. It was his "devout" sister Tarah.

I was more angered by the fact that she let her brother take the fall than by her loving a man of a different faith.

You may not believe in God, but God believes in you.

Hassan

The big secret was that she fell in love with a Jewish man and wanted to marry him even though she knew her father would never approve.

Instead of trying to help Hassan understand, she decided to elope.

Now, nothing against eloping, but if you're doing it because no one approves of your relationship, you have to stop and consider that maybe it's a bad idea.

Cab Driver: I believe you are lost.
Miles: Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean that I'm lost.

Obviously, given Hassan's deep devotion to the Islamic faith he wasn't going to open David with open arms, but to strip him from that decision wasn't fair.

Give him a little credit. People will always push away what they don't understand.

And Miles supported Tarah's efforts instead of listening to Rakesh and Cara and refusing to be a witness!

Miles' decision is even more upsetting because his decision wasn't based on the belief in their love, he simply wanted to prove that religion shouldn't stand in the way of love.

Anniversary Party - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6

And to a certain extent, I agree. Love is love. But how could it be a happy marriage if neither family agrees with it or supports it?

He knows how terrible it is to be estranged from your family member because of religion so why encourage the inevitable?

And the idea that maybe everyone will just hop on board once the deed is done is ignorant.

Thankfully, a chat with his father helped him realize that Hassan wasn't choosing religion over his child as Miles assumed, he was choosing religion for his child.

His intentions may have been in the right place because he thought he was protecting his daughter and steering her in the direction of real happiness, but he failed to realize that what he was doing was pushing her away.

If he kept it up, she'd resent him forever.

There are worse things that can happen, but your daughter marrying a stand-up man who was raised in a different religion isn't one of them.

Only when Hassan almost lost Tarah did he realize Miles had a point; he couldn't stand in the way of his daughter's happiness.

At its core, God Friended Me is about a family having faith in each other and being there for one another.

DJ Trex - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6

Miles was full of wisdom this week, but unfortunately, his logical advice sent Cara into the arms of another man.

Cara's indecisiveness about Eli should have been the moment she realized he wasn't the one.

And Miles should have picked up on her wanting "a sign" and kissed her right then and there.

But alas, he's a stand-up guy who he told her to "find out" if Eli is the one.

Most of the time our fears are more universal than we'd like to admit which is why we feel compelled to wrap them up in things like religion.

Arthur

For now, it seems like he is, but eventually, she'll figure out what she already knew -- things ended between them for a reason and she's really into Miles.

However, something tells me when that happens it might be too late because there's a new woman on Miles' radar.

After Uncle T advised him to take on a marketing class to better promote the Millenial Prophet, he ran smack-dab into the person that's been sticking posters over his flyers.

DJ Trex, his "enemy," turned out to be a cute girl (and most definitely a potential love interest), Nia.

Marketing Class - God Friended Me

I'm going to say that the moment Cara sees Miles giving his time and affection to another girl, she's going to realize her true feelings.

The inability to act on feelings seems to run in the family because Arthur had a hard time getting back on the saddle.

Thankfully, after a few visits to the music shop, he finally scored a date. Go, Arthur!

It's important to see the distinction between letting go and moving on.

A drunk driver took my mother away from me and religion took my father.

Miles

I thoroughly enjoyed Cara and Rakesh dabbling in some security-breaching fun together.

I hate to be the one to say this, but I think the God account is a better hacker than Rakesh.

How have they managed to stay anonymous and thwarted every attempt at cracking the firewall?

Uncle T seemed like a decent dude at first. However, something shady is definitely going on with him.

In fact, it's so shady, the God account is suggesting him as Miles' next "friend."

What is he hiding? What made his wife Lena so upset that she decided to leave her anniversary party? Does it have something to do with Arthur's jealousy?

I think it has something to do with the game-changing building.

The series continues delivering chill-inducing moments with each passing episode.

On God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 6 it was revealed that Hassan had a connection to God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 1.

Remember John Dove who saved Cara when she got hit by a car? Hassan was Dove's cab driver!

It seems all of the friend suggestions are connected in some spiritual way. It's almost like fate.
