The big move to New York has paid off for Ray Donovan.

Showtime has revealed that the veteran drama will be back for its seventh season in 2019 and that the titular character will remain in the Big Apple for the next batch of episodes.

Ray Donovan Season 6 got underway earlier this year, picking up with Ray (Liev Schreiber) being saved from a deadly scenario, and starting the process of putting down roots in New York.

While it presented the show with a fresh change of pace as far as Ray's storyline was concerned, the other characters are a little more problematic.

In announcing the move to New York last year, many assumed it meant that a lot of the series regulars would be let go in order to give the show the soft revamp it needed.

“For our show, creatively, New York is exciting,” showrunner David Hollander said last year when the New York move was revealed.

“Fashion, media, finance, theatre, culture. It’s going to present new challenges for Ray which means new opportunities for us as dramatists.”

Ray Donovan Season 6 was the first without former series regular Paula Malcomson as Abby Donovan.

The character was killed off at the top of Ray Donovan Season 5 before the season moved back and forth through time to tell viewers the complete story.

Susan Sarandon, who initially appeared as a recurring player took on the female lead role and it coincided with Ray's big move.

While the show has been able to switch some things up, it has not been able to reverse the downward trend in the ratings.

Ray Donovan Season 6 is off almost 40 percent in the demo year-to-year and is currently averaging a 0.16 rating in adults 18-49.

These are in live + same day figures, but there are more ways to watch Showtime than ever these days, so it's possible the erosion is less when you factor delayed viewing in.
