Maybe this string might actually get tied up.
Fugitive hacker Aaron Wright resurfaced after nearly two seasons on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 24.
Aaron was last seen when he escaped from Tani's custody on Hawaii Five-0 Season 8 Episode 4.
Yeah, it's hard to believe it's been that long. Weren't Steve and Danny still planning a restaurant back then?
Anyway, Aaron had no choice but to come in from the cold after the NSA outpost where he had been working was shot up by three killers while he was in the break room.
Or so it seemed.
Should we have been more suspicious of Aaron from the beginning? After all, the NSA unit chief came under suspicion simply because he was out of the office at the time of the attack.
But we're all suckers for a redemption story.
Look at Adam. He was a former Yakuza heir who came over to the side of love because of Kono's love. It was a heartwarming tale of redemption.
So Aaron, who just avoided getting caught in a massacre, could have seen the error of his ways, right? Was it that far-fetched?
After all, there were plenty of viable suspects, starting with his slain coworker Tim, who was blackmailing people on the side.
One of those "victims" was the powerful CEO of a medical-device company, who needed to hide the information that one of the company's devices was killing people but was still on the market.
So why not kill the only people who had that information and take back the information, which was the only way to be safe from government recall?
There was even a digital trail to the hitmen from a digital slush fund. That tied things up in a bow.
But there was also the matter of hunting down the three killers, who were still targeting Aaron (and probably Flores, the unit chief as well, although he had disappeared again until the end).
One was conveniently mowed down at Aaron's house, which was of course under surveillance.
The other two were stupid enough to chase after Aaron's phone, in possession of Tani and Junior. Who needs visual confirmation?
Doesn't Tani drive just like McGarrett, with that same animal ferocity? It took an RPG to shake them off the killers' trail.
Of course, McGarrett swooped in with a timely couple of rounds to rescue his junior teammates.
It was easy enough to believe that Aaron had come to Five-0 just out of self-interest and not something more altruistic.
It also was possible to buy that the NSA had appealed to his sense of patriotism, using his coding skills to wage war on enemy combatants.
Taking arrested hackers and employing their abilities rather than just jailing them does seem economical sense.
Up until the time when they hire international mercenaries to steal government secrets and sell them to the highest bidder. That's when this scenario falls apart.
Jerry showed how the task force felt about Aaron when he decked him with a right cross.
It was a tough episode for Tani and Junior.
First, they got nearly blown up, rolled over in an SUV, then got shot at with automatic weapons until McGarrett's rescue.
Then they had to turn around and go to the parole hearing for the drunk driver who had killed Junior's sister Maya, since his parents weren't attending.
After the spirited apology by Maya's killer, Junior was right not to oppose parole. He did what he thought Maya would have wanted to be done for her.
After the progress Junior had been making with his father, this is probably going to cause their relationship to regress. Junior just can't catch a break.
Where are Tani and Junior after going to the wedding together on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 23?
Well, the fallout from that event and their relationship were n't addressed directly. No waking up together or having the other team members interrogate them.
It was handled more subtly than that.
Neither one are ones to talk about their feelings, and Junior's mind was definitely on the hearing.
But they were more touchy-feely, especially Tani. And Tani went to back him up when he needed it most at that hearing.
I think their relationship has deepened but just exponentially. Also whatever they do has to be done on the DL, especially until they figure out what they are to each other.
Finally, there was the battling Grover brothers, Lou and Percy.
Old brother Percy relocated to Oahu on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 8 to become pastry chef for Kamekona's Italian Bistro (the late, unlamented Steve's).
Percy had discovered that a bakery on the North Shore was selling his secret-recipe pastry, so he brings in his baby brother Lou to deal with this theft.
It was a funny twist that Percy was looking to branch out and create his own business. At the same time, Flippa was wholesaling Percy's pastries to see if there was the interest.
In the end, they decided to work together, and Lou was threatening to invest in the new business as well.
I wonder what Kamekona thinks of this? I'm sure he'll find a way to get his cut.
Next week's finale promises to have Aaron using his cyber-shenanigans to shake up the islands.
Creating such a panic would echo the false missile alert from January 2018, at the height of Kim Jung Un's missile tests.
