Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16 Review: End of the Line

at .

That's a wrap on the worst season of TV in several years.

Yes, it was that bad.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16 was a bizarre installment that was all over the place in terms of tone and pace.

Riding Horses into the End - Fear the Walking Dead

We'll start with that death.

If it sticks, it will be the best thing the show has done in years. Morgan taking over from Madison as one of the main characters on Fear the Walking Dead is what killed the series.

Morgan With His Stick - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 6

It's a shame the writers thought that bringing one of the worst cast members from the main series to take over the spinoff which already had established plots and characters.

I hope to god you die.

Ginny

What was supposed to refresh the show ruined the very fabric of it, and it's probably best for it to end. It's going to take time to right the ship, but having the showrunners that destroyed it at the wheel of Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 leads me to believe it's going to be the same crap again.

Morgan single-handedly ruined this show. It relied too much on his boring speeches and half-baked plans. He did not possess a single trait that a leader should have. If he's dead, then Lennie James can move on and find a show that he can actually act on.

He's a glorified speech reader here. But the rule of thumb with TV shows is that if the character didn't die on-screen, they are probably going to pop back up down the line.

Dwight Makes a Plea - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16

If that does turn out to be the case, it's likely that Sherry will be the one to save him. There have been so many teases of the love of Dwight's life that the storyline needs payoff or the fans will riot and create petitions to get the showrunners fired.

Oh wait, there is a petition for that.

Ginny: Glad you called, Morgan. Glad as a grandma with a gravy boat.
Morgan: Wasn't sure you were going to be in range.
Ginny: Well, now that you got some that Texas T on tap, we're running generators with repeaters from here to Pecos, so yeah, we are always in range. I told you the future wasn't across that bridge Morgan. I did try. But no use crying over spilled milk, right? Tell me where you are.
Morgan: In a place called Humbug's Gulch.
Ginny: You pulling my leg right now? That gulch is one of the biggest settlements I ever came across. 263 souls.

Morgan will probably turn into a killing machine if he does survive. As much as he should be dead, he will probably change

The most frustrating aspect of the finale was that Ginny double-crossed Morgan. It was the predictable route, but Morgan was an idiot to not think of something else to take her down.

A Walker in the Night - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16

It was a forced development to get the characters to the destination the showrunner's envisioned. That much was glaringly obvious.

Now that everyone is split up, it is the perfect time to give most of the useless characters reasons to disappear from the show for good. There many characters who could go and the show would be better for it.

Another soft reboot with Alicia, Strand, Daniel, John, and June would probably be the best way to continue. But we don't always get what we want.

Where'd you come from, boy? You just saved my life.

Dwight

Even the above characters have been terribly written of late. Alicia's outlook on life changed forever when she started to consider her mortality as a result of her brush with death.

Alicia Finds Something New to Paint - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16

But having her paint trees to fill her time on the screen is a stretch. At one point, Alicia was the best character on the show, but the writing for her has been so abysmal that it doesn't even seem like the actress is giving it her all.

There is so much talent on the series. It's a shame it is all going to waste.

The biggest flaw, however, is that there's zero logic. The group arrived at Humbug's Gulch, managed to fight their way through all of the walkers, and still took Ginny's deal.

They could have survived on their own. It would have been tough, but if everyone pulled their weight, they could have made a community there.

A New Location - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16

Hell, they could have made a community in the denim factory, but that location just disappeared from existence while everyone hit the road.

Then there's Grace. The revelation that she was pregnant was a genuine surprise. It certainly seemed like she was going to die, but the finale would have been far more interesting if Ginny gave the order to kill her AFTER the pregnancy reveal.

Sure, it would have been brutal, but it would give Ginny some depth. Logan appeared to be the worst villain of the series, but Ginny is quite simply all over the place.

It's silly that people actually follow her when she seems more like a stand-up comedian than a leader of people. She's one character who should disappear.

John and Morgan in a Cave - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 15

"End of the Line" was not the worst episode of the series, but it was another throwaway one. All that's left to do is hope that a miracle happens between seasons to course correct, but that's probably asking for too much at this stage,

What did you think of the finale?

Do you think Morgan is dead or alive?
