Shameless Season 8 Episode 7 Review: Occupy Fiona

at .

Fiona and Ian need to put their quarrel aside.

On Shameless Season 8 Episode 7, the siblings were still at war and taking pot shots at each other to get the upper hand. Fiona wanted to end the feud, but Ian was determined to make his sister pay for trash-talking the homeless teenagers.

Fiona and Nessa - Shameless

While it was funny seeing the various things they did to get revenge on the other, it seemed like it was foreshadowing the news that Ian has not been taking his medication.

We never got confirmation, per se, but the way Ian was laying down without emotion at the close of the hour was very reminiscent of his arc on Shameless Season 4

I don't think that was coincidental, and it sure seems like Ian is going to be taken down a dark path during the back half of Shameless Season 8

Ian's behavior has been erratic of late, so there's a genuine possibility that he is not in the best state mentally. Also, he will need to get to a doctor soon because he could be putting lives at risk while working as an EMT.

Fiona and Ian at War - Shameless Season 8 Episode 7

Fiona knows there's something not quite right about the way he was acting, but she also knows she's going to be painted as the villain if she contacts Sue or anyone else from his work to let them know he's not himself.

It's a difficult situation for her to be in, and I'm sure she will find a way to get through to him. At least she has a functional group of people around her to help her through whatever may arise.

Nessa: Gotta admit, it's catchy.
Fiona: Thundercunt Slum Lord. I'm starting to detect a pattern there.

I'm starting to have doubts about Nessa. She seems way too sweet and seems to know the way out of every single scenario. If Fiona needs something, Nessa is there to help.

I sincerely hope Nessa doesn't pull some crap and try to take the building from her because that would be a little too similar to what happened with the bar when Svetlana got too greedy for her own good.

Lip's storyline is gathering steam, and it's becoming as clear as day that the best career for him is one that involves him helping people.

Lip Visits Someone - Shameless Season 8 Episode 7

His tenacity while trying to help get Youens a lighter sentencing was second to none. If you watch Shameless online, you will already know that Youens has been instrumental in making Lip a better man.

The fact of the matter is that Youens is a danger to himself and society. There was no way he was going to quit drinking. Despite several reminders, all roads lead back to alcohol.

Being incarcerated is the only hope of him getting sober at this stage, and while Lip was mad that he got himself put in jail, he will come to respect the decision down the line.

It was nice that Brad was there as a character witness, but Brad is not gelling with the other storylines. It's difficult to watch someone refuse help, and fail to realize why they are on the outs with those around them.

Brad fell off the wagon, and there's no way his partner is going to forget that and allow him around their child. Brad is being used as a plot device to help prop up Lip's storyline, and that's only going to work for so long.

There was a look from Sierra that made her realize Lip is becoming a helper for people who really need it, and her problems with her boyfriend will likely send her back into Lip's arms.

Then again, Lip is not in any fit state to start a relationship. Relationships come with a lot of pressure, and it would be best for him to remain single for the time being.

He's getting on with his life, and I would hate to see him go one step forward and two back. He's a smart kid, and he knows what the right thing for him to do is.

It was refreshing that Frank did not return to alcohol straight away after losing his job. Instead, he went out and tried to find a job that met his lofty expectations.

The troubling thing that Frank failed to notice was that people were being laid off left, right and center. While I don't agree with his new business to take people to Canada and bring items back to sell, he's trying.

Frank's New Job Plan - Shameless Season 8 Episode 7

He knew the opportunities were dire for a man his age after witnessing how long the line was of managers who had lost their jobs. I don't expect this little business venture to last long, but bravo to the writers for giving viewers a whole new side to the character.

"Occupy Fiona" was a decent episode that was let down by some of the subplots. The show is focusing on too many characters, and it's time to dial it back and focus on the characters who have been with the show since the beginning.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • I laughed way more than I should have at Debbie welding the bin to the car. The man deserved it for the sheer lack of respect for her.
  • I'm tired of Kev trying to impress V. They need cut out the petty arguments and live together as one, or they run the risk of splitting up before long.
  • What was promising about Carl's storyline on Shameless Season 8 Episode 6 was negated on "Occupy Fiona" by sloppy writing. Cassie is a bit of a loose cannon, and she's going to drag Carl down with her.
