The Pretty Little Liars spinoff has finally started to find its own footing.

Romance was front and center on PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8, yet it still didn't take anything away from the plot and ongoing mysery.

Their Own Shipper Name - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

We are completely onboard with Ava and Zach. From the moment they met and got off on the wrong foot, it was clear that there was going to be some development between the two characters.

Ava even gave them their own ship name: #Zava. How cute is that?

But as easy much as we love them together, Ava is still recovering from Nolan's death.

Over the last few episodes, so much was happening that it was all too easy for Ava to push her grief to the side. But now that she's faced with the prospect of moving on, old memories are starting to become more painful.

There was only a brief scene or two on PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 1 that highlighted Nolan and Ava's relationship in a positive light.

While we could still feel sympathy towards Ava for what she's going through, it was hard to be genuinely disheartened as Nolan's manipulative side was the one we experienced the most.

The New Spencer - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

The flashbacks served as a way to connect the audience to Nolan and understand what it was that Ava loved about him. We may have been told about Nolan's compassion, but it's far different experiencing it firsthand.

At the end of PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8, Ava did seem to realize that Nolan would want her to be happy.

As soon as she's ready to be in a relationship again, we hope that she and Zach will give things a shot.

There's also the Mona and Mason side of things. To put it plainly, the pairing is flat-out weird and whatever's going on between them needs to end.

I want to say that I'm surprised they would go there, but considering that Pretty Little Liars created an "epic" romance between an underage high school student and her English teacher, we really should have seen this coming.

Mona is 26 and Mason is only 19. The relationship between them may not be technically illegal, but it is inappropriate and will end up costing Mona her job.

This would also be the perfect opportunity for Mona's stalker to blackmail her.

Whoever it is seems to have all the dirt on everyone, so it's unlikely that they wouldn't get their hands on a secret as big as this one.

When it comes to Alison's love life, she seems to be moving on.

It feels like a slap in the face to Emily and Alison shippers, as we barely know anything about their breakup, and what we do know doesn't make much sense.

Suspicion - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

Alison may have been smooching the language professor, but it was someone else who seemed to have their eye on her.

For the past couple episodes I've wondered if Taylor was catching feelings for Alison, or if I was just reading too much into their new friendship.

But it was hard to miss Taylor's face each time she saw Alison talking to Gabriel. Could it have been a look of jealousy?

Jeremy has been on our suspects list since PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 1, and it appears as if we were right about something being off about him.

Who Is That Lady - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

He was a bit too secretive about his computer, and it became even more obvious that he was hiding something when he abruptly left in the middle of the night to throw his laptop in the water.

Is Caitlin even safe with him?

During the last shot we saw of them Jeremy was ordering her to get into his car.

The show could be throwing us for a loop and Jeremy may be trying to protect his girlfriend, but his tone sounded pretty threatening.

Who Can Be Trusted? - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

Speaking of threats, the liars may have finally gotten rid of one of them.

Dylan and Ava's fake fight convinced Dana that Dylan would rat out his friends for his own protection.

Dana was willing to go so far as to give Dylan a fake alibi to get what she wanted.

Now that they have her confession on tape Dana won't just be off their backs, she could be sent to prison.

Everyone seems to be convinced that Claire Hotchkiss will kick Dana off the case when she receives the evidence, but we're not so sure.

Just like Dana, Claire seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of Nolan's murder. It's hard to believe that she would let something like a misconstrued alibi get in the way of solving the case.

The Face of Jealousy? - PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 8

Stray thoughts:

  • What's next for Dylan? If he doesn't come clean about his recording, he could be expelled from BHU.
  • Mona and Taylor's dislike for each other actually proved to be comical. Their begrudging alliance could make them a fun pair.
  • It's still just speculation at this point, but is anyone on board with a potential Taylor and Alison romance? It's not that we're against them specifically, but no relationship could ever live up to the one between Emily and Alison.
  • Where was Andrew? Now that he and Dylan are back together we've got our fingers crossed for Andrew to get more screentime.
